Footer Won't Save

Dear X Support,

I have an emergency, my footer keeps deleting itself, I have rebuilt it a fair few times to no avail. I press the save button a few times but sometimes that actually causes the footer to delete itself. I am really lost at what to do.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Caleb

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! I have logged and checked your site. There seems to have a JS error on the page. I’ve look around for some custom JS code that may have in conflict and there is none. This could be cause by a 3rd party plugin. You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for that.

I disabled all plugins and then starting rebuilding my footer and it started to work. However, checking it again this morning to make a change and it was all deleted. I am very much confused, but I will keep trying.

Thanks,

Caleb

So update on my problems, I have narrowed it down to when I create a custom headline or text with an href attribute. So I am not sure why that is happening. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I can confirm that, but would you allow me to disable your plugins? If yes, please backup your site first.

There are multiple javascript errors, some are originating from plugins such as wpmuldap.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

Ok cool, the website is organised through my university so I can’t actually control any of the plugins. The theme and website was migrated from my own domain to one owned by my university on a multi-site setup, so I am not sure you will be able to disable any of the plugins.

But if you can, by all means go ahead.

Thanks,

Caleb

Thank you,

I went to your website and the plugins were all deactivated except Essential Grids. I tried to access the footer builder but it took me forever to load the builder.

Would you please first of all contact your hosting service provider and ask them to increase the PHP memory limit, then increase it on the WordPress installation?

To do so please read the article below:

Then kindly add a test page and add a test Footer and add the element you are talking about. Also, give us how you add the href to the text element so we can check the code and get back to you with test results.

Thank you.

Yeah I had disabled them all, but I had to re-enable them for development. Yeah it has slowed down a lot.

I will try my best, as I said before, as it is hosted by my university I don’t have much control over those options.

Ok will do, the test page is at:

www.qo17.com.au/test

However, I won’t be able to add the element correctly as it will just erase itself after I save it.

This is the href I have been using, it worked perfectly on my test website but has failed ever since transferring to my universities domain. I have put brackets around the ‘a’ tag so it will show.

<(a) href=“http://www.qo17.com.au”>QO17<(/a)>

Thanks,

Caleb

Hi there,

Thank you for your response. I did spend a lot of time on this case and unfortunately, I should say the hosting service provider does not have enough privileges to run our theme correctly.

There are many factors involved but it seems the hosting restricts accessing to some URLs, it even restricts access to our server to check for updates as you can see in Pro > Overview page:

<img src="//tco-forum-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/2X/6/6a7620a64a318376f5cbabeb83a0553c850c0e65.jpg" width="333" height="81">

Also, the error which I see in the browser developer toolbar when I want to add anchor tag in text element is the setHTML, which comes from the tinymce editor Javascript file which we use in this case:

That shows even the TinyMCE plugin which is the default editor of the WordPress is restricted and the javascript file can not trigger the setHTML.

I strongly suggest that you consider using other hosting service to use our software.

Thank you for your understanding.

Christopher,

Wow thanks for looking into it for me. Yeah it seems that way. I did notice that, I think the university doesn’t want to hand over any control to me, hopefully my Univeristy’s IT department will help me oovercome these issues.

Thank you all so much for helping out.

Thanks,

Caleb

Glad to see we managed to help.

Cheers
