Font weights don't seem to load/import

Hi Support,

I’ve tried to import all font weights for open sans and roboto:

But somehow it’s not allowing me to change font weights through the style box in individual elements (in this case headers). It looks like it’s not importing those fonts properly.

Also, it looks like it is still importing the default lato font?

You can view the website at http://lawnmowershop.co.nz/ (the temp pass on construction page is lawn123)

Hey there,

The fonts are loaded in the footer and the font weights that are loaded are the ones you set in Theme Options > Typography. The font manager will not load the font neither the font weights. That is to prevent users from slowing down their sites as fonts have an impact in page load times.

If you want all font weights loaded, you will need to use a third party plugin or custom function.

Thanks.

Hi @christianynion thank you for getting back to me.

What would the purpose be for being able to select multiple font weights if you can only use one?
What would be the use for the font manager if you still can only select one font and weight for a heading? If will be faster just going into font settings and selecting your font from typography, than having to select it in font manager and then having to go back into theme options to set it. Seems like a lot of extra steps.

Unless I am missing something?

Edit: Font manager makes it easier to manage fonts in the header and footer builder… I just remember that.

The Font Manager is a built-in app to organize font setups. Think of it as a list or a palette for the color manager. If you don’t need a list, yes, you can simply disable it in Typography to simplify your setup. For more details, please see https://theme.co/changelog/#theme-pro-1-0-0

Thanks.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I have to disagree with the answer from support.

The font manager should load all the fonts and weights. The latest update should have fixed the problem, see here the changelog:

The font manager is now properly enqueuing Google fonts

https://theme.co/changelog/#theme-pro-1-1-1
https://theme.co/changelog/#cornerstone-2-0-6

But it’s still not working. I have the same problem and other folks too, see here for example: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/pro-1-1-1-breaks-font-manager/3105

@Support: Can you confirm this?

Thanks and best regards,
Michael

Hi there,

We’ll see about that when our developers reply, Its a bit random in my installation too. So I can’t rule out if it’s a bug or just cache related. Forwarded this thread.

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

To confirm, font families and weights will only load when they are detected to be required by the header/footer builders or by Theme Options. If you add weights in the manager, that makes them available for selection. In an effort to only load what’s absolutely needed, weights and families will be excluded from loading unless you’re explicitly using them somewhere.

I see how this does make it a challenge to use them in custom places outside where they are implemented. I’ve opened a feature request so we can explore adding a “force” option. This would allow you to ensure all your selections are loaded all the time.

Thank you for the clarification.

Yes the option to set a font weight in the content builder would be great (via the element’s style option or dedicated option).

Perhaps there could be a “best practices” help doc or help tips throughout pro/x to allow sites to be fully optimized if the site dev so choose.

Thank you for your feedback.

I will pass it to our developers.

All the best!

Thanks for the answers and sorry for the misleading information from my side.

And +1 for the “force” option. For example I often want to use a different font for the blockquote. And it would be perfect to load the font in the font manager (and then I can simply use the font via CSS).

Thanks for the feedback! Just a quick poll from who is here: Would you rather allowing forcing individual weights to load, all the weights in a family, or just all selections? I’ll need to see what can be done in the UI, but knowing use cases would help a little bit.

@alexander I would prefer it to have the following:

  • To load all fonts that is selected in the font manager, in all weights selected - Not all weights (for example, I love pairing a 600/700 with a 300 weight for a visually appealing statement or heading etc., but my body text would normally be a 400. So I will only select 300,400,600,700. I hope that makes sense?)
Here is an example of the visual:
  • A message that informs users that having multiple fonts setup will/could slow down your site and advise to delete all unused fonts before the site is live to the public.

That’s just my 2c.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi @alexander it now looks like my site won’t load the fonts selected in my header builder… Only the theme options ones.
I am on the latest version of Pro.

@werner7 Would you mind if I logged into your site to take a closer look? You can add login credentials in a secure note.

Hi @alexander please see the new thread (as per support’s request) with login details below.

Hi @werner7

Let’s discuss it on your other thread, we also forwarded it to our developer for further checking.

Thanks!
