Font sizes and where to define them

hi there,

i am wondering why no changes in the font sizes in the themes (pro) theme global settings have no effect on the fonts on the website.

then i found this in the forum from the support:

The global settings will only affect the classic elements. With v2 elements, it does not depend on the global settings since it has its own default settings.

is that the explanation?

thanks a lot! kai

HelloKai,

Yes, the global font settings styles are going to be overridden by the element settings since the element settings style has high priority.

Hope it helps
Thanks

hi @prakash_s
thanks for that!
can i somehow reset the elements settings so that the global font settings work again?
best wishes, kai

Hello @iTurtle,

The new or v2 elements have their own independent default font settings. You also have more control over the v2 elements compared to the classic elements. The only way you can control the fonts of the v2 elements using the Theme Options > Typography settings is to edit all of the page, header, and footer and then make sure that every Text or Headline element, the font should be set to “Inherit” so that these elements will just inherit the global font settings.

Still, other settings like size, spacing, line-height, style, etc will still be using the default element settings, unless you have changed them individually.

Best Regards.

hi @ruenel
thanks for your explanation!

but… i was wondering how i can reset a text element to its default settings. only way so far i found is adding a new text element und copying the text into it.

specifically: how do i reset the size of the font so that the global settings will be applied?
when i delete the value it does not work. typing auto seems to work but might not be correct.

also: i use scaling with minimum font size 1em and maximum font size 2em. but no matter which view port, the text always is 1em.

thanks again and have a nice sunday! kai

Hello Kai,

Yes, the Text element has a default of 1em. If you change the Root Font size mode to Stepped and then set the responsive sizes like this:

Then, 1em will be equivalent to the the break point font size. This will affect all elements.

Best Regards.

hi @ruenel,
thanks again!
i am afraid i put my question wrongly…

• i already use the new text element.
• i set a font size different from 1em.
• now i cant get back to the default settings of this text element.

how can i do this? like i described. i deleted the input field. does not work.
i put in none or auto. seems to work for auto - but i am not sure if this is correct.

so how do i bring the font size field (or for that matter any field) back to its default (untouched) value???

the goal of this is that the global font settings should be reflected in the text field again.

best wishes, kai

as i notice now. the same question for the font color which i can define in the global theme settings.
when i change that color once in the text element i can’t get it back to the global default setting. please let me know how this is supposed to work. thanks again!

Hello @iTurtle,

When you first insert a Text element, the default font settings are these:

Only those properties that have inherit in them will inherit the settings from the Global Typography settings. The rest is the built-in style of the Text element.

Best Regards.

Still, other settings like size, spacing, line-height, style, etc will still be using the default element settings, unless you have changed them individually.

does that mean, that all these settings (also color) work only for the old text elements?
if not. what are they for then?

having trouble with the forum. sorry. why can it set size, spacing, line-height, style, color, etc in the global settings then if they are not being used by the text element?

Hello There,

Please be advised that the Global Font Settings will be applied sitewide to all pages and layouts that are NOT built with Cornerstone. For example, if you have already some pages and posts and just have installed and activated the X theme or Pro theme, the Global Font settings will be used.

If you created a page or layout using Cornerstone builder and have inserted a Text element, only the font family, font weight, and height will get inherited from the Global Settings. The rest of the styling will come from the default styling of the Text element. You CANNOT set size, spacing, line-height, style, color, etc in the global settings for the Text element.

Best Regards.
