Font on Rev Slider not loading on mobile

Hi there,

I am using the Google font ‘DFS Didot’ on my Rev Slider - a font that doesnt appear on the rest of the site.
It doesnt load on mobile at all.

I have tried to add @import url(‘https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=GFS+Didot’); to the Customiser (as suggested in other forum posts), but it says ‘not allowed here’.

I have also tried to add it to ‘fonts’ in Pro Headers, as a third option. It still doesn’t work.

I don’t want to create a child theme so hoping there is another way around this. Any advice appreciated.

Neither Gills Sans (set as body copy in ‘Fonts’ in Pro settings) or GFS Didot (set in Rev Slider) are showing on my mobile. First time this has ever happened to me as usually very simple set up within Pro so wondering what I am missing. Many thanks.

Hi Jayd,

It seems like there is a caching issue on your site.

Please disable the minification option for Cornerstone as it is already minified and minifying it further will cause issues.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, that’s interesting. I have WP Fastest Cache, and have disabled the Minified HTML and Minified Option. However, the problem persists on my mobile. I don’t have any further caching plugins on the site. Many thanks.

Hi Jayd,

In that case, please provide your admin login credentials in a secure note.

I see the same font declaration just above the slider code

You don’t need to add @import or implement it through child theme, maybe what we need to find is the reason why it’s not loading. And may I know which mobile has this issue? It works okay on my phone.

Thanks!

Hey Jayd,

I have replicated the issue in my test site. It’s only the Didot font that will not render in mobile. I’d recommend that you try other serif fonts from Google Fonts. I’ve tried Merriweather and PT Serif and they work.

I have tried loading the GFS Didot font separately and it still won’t display. This method will also add load time to your site so I’d recommend a font change because loading separately is not a good solution.

I’ll post this in our issue tracker so the person in charge for bundled third party plugins will report this to ThemePunch.

Thanks.

Hi there. Thanks for writing back. I have changed the CAPS font on the rev slider to the same as the other headings - Libre Baskerville. It is still not loading on my Samsung 7, despite clearing WP Fastest Cache and the browser cache on my Chrome in my mobile. I can also see that the Gill Sans I have set to the Toggle and Off Canvas Menu are also not being picked up on my phone. They are both selected in the Fonts options. Please let me know if you are able to see the fonts on your mobile phone. I might be able to check a few others at work but interested as to why its not working on mine thanks.

I see that that those fonts does not load in your site. But, I tested those fonts in my test site and they work.

This leads me to suspect that this might be device specific and/or something in the server setting is causing this. Google Fonts might also not work in mobile so it will fall back to another font. See https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq#does_the_google_fonts_api_work_on_mobile_devices

Regretfully, in this case, there is nothing we could do on our end.

Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for letting me know.
For future reference, is there a way I can change the fallback font from Sans Serif to Serif?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jayd,

It’s not possible too as it depends on the font it’s falling back from. Examples,

“Archivo Black”, sans-serif
“Aref Ruqaa”, serif

And so on, how about using system font? The problem with external fonts is you don’t have full control and the rendering depends on how the fonts made by its author. There are fonts that work well on standard characters but fails on special characters, and so on.

Thanks!

Hi there,

When you say system fonts, do you mean the ones that Pro includes in their font selection menu?

System fonts are fonts available in a machine. For example, Georgia is a Windows OS font. In a Mac where the Georgia isn’t available, it will fallback to a serif system font. I believe Rad’s referring to Slider Revolution system fonts.

Thanks.
