I am using the xtheme cornerstone headers and footers and they work fine on most browsers, but flex is not compatible with explorer or with older iphones. Do you know a solution for this?

X, Cornerstone and Pro, just like WordPress, are compatible with Internet Explorer 11 and the last 2 versions of iOS.
There is no solution for old browsers and they will not be supported. It’s also not recommended to keep on using old software especially internet connected apps for a variety of reasons including security most importantly.
If many of your audience use old devices, it’s best that you notify them to upgrade using a third party notification script like https://browser-update.org/
