Finetuning what shows up on a Facebook share

Hi
I just implemented the share element and on testing I can see my site needs lots of work in this regard. I am seeing unfinished bits for title, etc. I am referring to the little site summaries social media site generated when you share an URL.

I also major problems on linkedin and facebook, when I sent the page to a friend for proofreading.

I wonder if you can do a quick summary / mini-guide of what WP items get commonly pulled by social media sites to generate summary views, and show us where we need to go to update each of the items on X.

Your help is much appreciated!

Hi @flashfog,

Can you please provide your website URL to check the issue? I would also request you to share login credentials for your site in a secure note as it is required to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Ok, I extended the secure note, thanks

Hi @flashfog,

I have tested the page you referred, and tried to share with Facebook,Twitter, and Linkedin and found that it shows the content and the URL properly. While sharing any page in Social Media it basically captures the data from the Open Graph meta tags of that specific page. I would request you to go through the following articles on Open Graph and how to add and improve that.

  1. https://ahrefs.com/blog/open-graph-meta-tags/
  2. https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-add-facebook-open-graph-meta-data-in-wordpress-themes/

Hope it helps.
Thanks

This is very good, thank you. Any plans for the builder to support this out of the box?

Hello @flashfog,

There are no plans since this is beyond the theme. The issue is on the other end which how the social network reads your site. You might need to check this out to know what should be done to be able to display your post correctly when sharing the post on Facebook:

Best Regards.

I think this would make a really good addition to to the share element; to be able to set all those variables in one place, at the same time the rest of sharing is setup.

The ultimate success of a website is that it is widely shared on social media, don’t you think? anything to help that should be part of X natively.

Hello @flashfog,

We do have that Open Graph integration on the site. You can enable it in X > Theme Options > Social > Open Graph. Normally, the featured image of the post or page is the default image to display. The excerpt or the very first few words from the content of the page will be displayed as the description. Meanwhile, if you have full control over the things to display, it is best that you install the Yoast SEO plugin instead.

Best Regards.

ok, glad this is on the radar! please put in a feature request to have this functionality amalgamated with the share element, and extended as much as possible

Noted. Thank you.
