Hi users of the X-theme,
Since the great update of Google in August my website isn’t findable anymore. We’re trying to find out was is happened. We don’t have had any “Google Penalty”, we cant find any SEO problems, we are even no longer at the top with our own name! The only thing that I can find at the moment that’s not right is the existence of these pages: https://www.fleurage-residences.nl/portfolio-item- tag / independent /. These pages appear in the Google index and seems that it would cause such a dramatic refusal and perhaps Google “see” this different after since the update?
I don’t know where those pages like “…portfolio-item- tag / independent /” come from. Are those pages standard pages that are embedded in the theme and have never been turned off?) and if so and more importantly: how to turn them off?
Are there more people with theme X who have big trouble with findability after the Google update?

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully, Google search results are completely beyond our control. I see that your site appears on search results, but may be the site ranking is down.
I suggest you to use a tool like Google Lighthouse to see what’s going on with your site (https://developers.google.com/web/tools/lighthouse/).
If you’re not using Portfolios on your site, you need to check and remove any portfolio items or portfolio page on your site and re-generate your XML sitemap based on that.
Also you will have to go through the details about recent update related changes (https://moz.com/google-algorithm-change), so that you should be able to recover your site.

Thank you for your respons, I removed the portfolio tags and other related portfolio files. Still it is weird that in google search appears results like …/portfolio-item-tag/western/. I never have used the Portfolio option and since the google update the search results are like you have mensioned above.
I’m going to check out the sites you suggested.

Hi Mariël,
What SEO plugin you used? I knew Yoast SEO plugin has the ability to exclude taxonomies (portfolio tags/categories, etc.) from indexing.
Find that same function on your SEO plugin and re-submit a sitemap to Google.
However, we can not really tell if that is the culprit of your site low ranking. If the issue persists, you might want to contact/hire someone that is more knowledgeable with SEO.
