Yes, you can alter the featured image size. Please add following CSS:

.blog .x-main .hentry>.entry-featured, .search .x-main .hentry>.entry-featured, .archive .x-main .hentry>.entry-featured {width: 40%;}

.blog .x-main .hentry.has-post-thumbnail>.entry-wrap, .search .x-main .hentry.has-post-thumbnail>.entry-wrap, .archive .x-main .hentry.has-post-thumbnail>.entry-wrap {width: 60%;}

There should text beneath e.g. “Sweet Rivalry” - the first few lines of the text that clicking the image takes you to.

Thank you for the clarification, its the excerpt, please edit your posts and add an excerpt.

If you don’t see the excerpt meta box on your end, please press the Screen Options on the upper right, and check the Excerpt box.

Thanks for the suggestion, Friech.

But the problem is the automatic excerpt - the 55-word snatch from the post that appears along with the title on the contents page. This auto excerpt used to appear but now it doesn’t!

It worked until I made the posts page the homepage. I decided to go back to having the contents page as the homepage, and that’s when the auto excerpt stopped working.

I have used the right-click and inspect method to examine the css, and the container for the .entry-content.excerpt has height 0

Any suggestions?

Hello There,

Thanks for updating in! Please be advised that Automatic excerpts were taken from the very first 55 words of your post. Since you are using Cornerstone in creating your post, WordPress cannot longer detect the first 55 words because all it sees are the Cornerstone formatting shortcodes. Any content inside the shortcodes will be ignored by WordPress and this is why the text element is ignore thus no auto excerpt were created in your posts. Excerpts are optional hand-crafted summaries of your content that can be used in your theme. Learn more about manual excerpts.

The only way to resolve this issue is to add a manual excerpts. This was pointed out by Friech already. If you can give us access to your site, we may be able to add an example for you.
