Favicon in HTML Code

I notice that the X Theme doesn’t output any HTML code for the favicon of my site in the page’s source code. Is this by design or is this wrong?

link rel=icon is what is used by the theme, which is the preferred WC3 method.

You can set it under ‘Customize’ -> Site Identity.

My problem with this method is that when faivon.ico is requested it redirects to the image set in site identity. You have a solution that prevents the 301?

Thanks for writing in! You can set the favicon in the Appearance > Customize > Site Identity option. Kindly check out this thread:
