Fatal error: Uncaught Error with update 8.3.3 to 9.1.4

Really don’t know what to do. Just put the backup of the website back to get it working again.
After updating to 9.1.4 the following message is shown:

Hi Niek,

Thanks for reaching out!

I suspect that the issue has something to do with your PHP version. I suggest that you update your PHP version to 7.4 as WordPress recommendation. If you don’t know to update your PHP version, you may ask for help from your hosting provider.

Hope that helps and let us know how it goes.

Hi Marc, please see below:

Current Version Actions
PHP 7.4.27
YOUR PHP VERSION IS UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY

You are using our Managed PHP service, which means that we will automatically update your PHP version once a newer stable version is available. Alternatively, you can choose to manually change your PHP version.

Hi Niek,

Can you please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

Hi Tristup, see attached information. Thanks.

Hi Niek,

I have checked your website and found that there might be some different reasons behind your reason, I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.

1.Theme Related Issue
2.Plugin Conflict
3.Theme Update related issue
4.CSS/JS Customization
5.Disabling Cache
6.Disabling CDN

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above help, please copy your live site to a staging server so we could troubleshoot freely without breaking your live site.
And give us access in the secure note including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
– FTP/CPanel credentials to access the files

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Hi Tristup,

1.Theme Related Issue.
Updated to 9.1.4 and got the error. Switched to default Wordpress theme and the error is gone.
Put the backup of the website back to start from scratch.

2.Plugin Conflict.
Disabled all plugins except Cornerstone. Updated to 9.1.4. and got the error.
Put the backup of the website back to start from scratch.

3.Theme Update related issue
Well, that’s the problem, can’t update to 9.1.4. without getting the error message.

4.CSS/JS Customization
CSS, removed custom CSS and updated to 9.1.4. and got the error.
JS, no custom JS on the website.
Put the backup of the website back to start from scratch.

5.Disabling Cache
I can only find the option ‘purge SG Cache’ on top of the Wordpress admin website, so I clicked it. In the menu Wordpress dashboard -> settings -> general there is no mention of cache.
Updated to 9.1.4. and got the error.
Put the backup of the website back to start from scratch.
There is no cache plugin installed in Wordpress
Contacted the hosting service provider (Siteground), they have instructions to clear the cache. Followed the instructions and flushed the cache.
Updated to 9.1.4. and got the error.
Flushed the cache again.
Error is still there.
Put the backup of the website back to start from scratch.

6.Disabling CDN
I’m not aware of a CDN service being active on my website.

Created a staging site, see secure note.

Hi Niek,

I have updated the X in your staging and installed the updated Cornerstone too, but didn’t find the issue you described. I would suggest you check your staging server once and if everything is fine, you can migrate it to your live server.

Thanks

Hi Tristup,

I pushed the staging to live site and overall it seems to be working fine. Only thing is that the counters on the homepage don’t run anymore so I made the start and end values the same so it won’t display 0 anymore. I’ve got to look into that but if you have any suggestions I welcome these.

Hi Niek,

Glad to know that the problem is fixed now. Please remember that there is an ongoing issue with the counter element which has been already reported to our development team and they are looking into it.

Thanks
