I was able to restore from a back up. Updated the one Really Simple SSL plugin and everything is fine. I’m hesitant to then update the Cornerstone Plugin 5.3.3.

Hi @dtg10001,

Thank you for writing in, when you update Cornerstone to 5.3.3 did you update the X theme to 8.3.3 as well? Because both need to be updated. And check your WordPress version too it should be on the latest version as well (5.7.1). And while you’re at it update all your Plugins too.

How to Update

Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

If you can set up a staging environment, you can do your updating there first so we can troubleshoot if something wrong happens.

Cheers,

When I try to activate Cornerstone Plugin 5.3.3 I get:
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error .

Hi @CGCFAD

Please try temporarily downgrading the PHP version below version 7 or upgrading PHP to 7.4 and see if the error goes away. This issue was already posted to our issue tracker.

Please keep in mind that this is a problem with PHP 7.0 - doesn’t happen on previous or later PHP versions. PHP 7.0 has been EOL for over 2 years (https://www.php.net/supported-versions.php) although some hosts keep supporting it with 3rd party patches.

Please stay tuned and hope that helps.

Thank you.

I just tried to update the Cornerstone plugin first. Fatal Error.
Couldn’t do anything after that because of the fatal error. Can’t update Xtheme. Can that be done first? Or will the error still happen. We do not have control over the PHP version it is dictated by our hosting provider.

Hi @dtg10001,

I suggest that you delete the cornerstone plugin folder in the this directory wp-content/plugins. Once you are done with that, you can now update your X theme to the latest version. I also suggest that you contact your hosting provider and ask them to change the PHP version to 7.4 or up. I also check our issue tracker and this issue was already fix in our unreleased version.

Hope that helps and please bear with us.

Thank you.

Are you saying that this should not happen with the next release? I do not have easy ftp access to the folders.

Hi @dtg10001,

The issue has been already fixed and will be update with the succeeding releases. Still, we strongly recommend to update the PHP version to the recommended version by comparing version compatibility page.

Thanks for understanding.

I am getting the same fatal error as others in this thread when trying to upload and activate the latest version of Cornerstone from the link on my X dashboard page in Wordpress after completing the update to X Theme version 8.3.3. This initially happened on another version of the same site running on an old GoDaddy non-Cpanel environment that wouldn’t allow updates of PHP. I backed up the site and migrated it to a new GoDaddy environment that has Cpanel. I applied an extra license of X to the new site and completed verification. I am running the latest Wordpress 5.7.1 and PHP 7.4. I have other plugins installed, but none active at this time. I keep getting the fatal error. I tried deleting Cornerstone from the plugin directory then reinstalling - same issue. So what is the deal???
