Facebook comments disappeared

Good morning/day/evening!

We had another Facebook Comments plugin installed and it was working fine, but when I set up AMP, I noticed that the facebook comments wouldn’t show up on the AMP pages (probably because that plugin did it via an iframe). So, I deleted that plugin and tried to use the one that comes with X. Now the Facebook Comments have disappeared from everywhere altogether.
Note: I don’t know if this makes any difference, but I had the X FB Comments installed at the same time as the other plugin.

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! I have created a test page and facebook comment is displaying;

I am not sure where to find the AMP pages. Could you please provide the url where the facebook comments is not displaying?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for getting back to me.
You can access the AMP version of every page by either opening it on mobile, or adding “/amp/” at the end of the URL.

Here is a screenshot of an AMP version of a post, with the part the FB Comments should be:

And the same post in regular version:

Facebook Comments is currently not AMP compatible. Custom development is required to achieve that. Regretfully, that is outside the scope of our support. We do have an in-house custom development team that offer paid services, who may be able to assist. They can be contacted at pinnacle@theme.co if this is of interest to you. If you have any further questions about the theme, we are more than happy to provide you with assistance on these inquiries.

Thank you for your understanding.

OK… Please review the below screenshot of the AMP version of a test post created by the previous support rep. Please note that I have implemented a custom solution that DOES make Facebook comments AMP-compatible.

Also, please review the previous screenshots that I made where the FB Comments do not appear on ANY VERSION of the post.

Hello There,

Thanks for updating in! I can confirmed that the FB Comments is not displaying on some of your post items compared to the test post I have created. Could this be a caching issue? Have you tried clearing your plugin cache? I can see that you are using CloudFlare. Can you please apply the suggested settings from this link: https://xthemetips.com/using-cloudflare-rocket-loader-with-x-pro-and-x5/928/

And if possible, is it possible that we could check and test your CloudFlare settings and not just the settings in your WP dashboard. There are a lot of things you can set when logging in CloudFlare dashboard.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hello,

Rocket Loader is off:

Auto-minify is not doing anything with JavaScript:

I also changed this:

I purged the cache several times. I also tried Development Mode to bypass the Cloudflare cache altogether.

No changes…

Hi there,

I don’t see Facebook comments here https://blog.webfriendly.com/start-ups/5-steps-making-100000-year-freelancing-social-media-director/ (AMP or not). Are they old posts and you just recently enabled comments? Enabling comments will only take effect in newly added posts. But I like to continue testing it, would you mind providing your FTP login credentials in a secure note too? I just like to test the comments_open() if returning false or true.

Thanks!

Hey!

Login credentials are attached in the secure note.

Hi There,

I did check your settings and found that on Settings > Discussion Settings > Other Comments Settings you have enabled Automatically close comments on articles older than 30 days . This post: https://blog.webfriendly.com/start-ups/5-steps-making-100000-year-freelancing-social-media-director/ is published last year. More that the 30 days settings, that is why it isn’t showing the comments. Try to disable that option is you want the comments back.

Let us know how this goes.

Oh wow, it was that easy… I didn’t even know about that setting.
Congratulations, you found the simple solution to a problem that three other people couldn’t solve!

Thank you!

You’re most welcome.
