External Link Video Background

Hi guys,

I’ve always had a few doubts about how the background video section works.

I added a poster for when the video loads and then added the link to the video (which i’ll share in private).

The video links come from our own CDN, but that shouldn’t be a problem (we also tried with a vimeo link with the same effect).

The problem is that no matter what i do, it always loads the poster image but never the video.

I don’t have any cache enabled on the server or site.

Could you please take a look at the page and let me know what am i doing wrong? i’d like to avoid a self-hosted video and i suppose that if there’s no other option i can do everything with code, but i’d like to avoid it if possible.

Thanks.

Hi @elpanda13,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I checked your site and the background video loads fine however it took sometime to load the video but it works. I checked your video and it’s quite heavy that’s why it’s taking time to load.

I’d recommend you to use a smaller video or compress / resize the video you have and see if this resolves the loading issue.

Let us know how this goes!

i did the same with vimeo though and it never really loaded.

i added the link to the vimeo and you can try that as well, is there a particular rule for vimeo videos?

Hi FranticApe,

Unfortunately, Vimeo videos are not supported as Vimeo only supports direct access to the video link if you have a Pro tier subscription and even then it does not show correctly in many cases.

You need to consider either using another service that gives a direct link to the video file or considers the self-hosting of your video.

Thank you for your understanding.

Do you have a suggestion of another service? i suppose youtube would be one of them but i believe they would add ads. apart from that, do you know of another service that would work?

I could self host them but the video is in 4K and it would probably still take a lot of time to load which is something i’d like to avoid.

Hello FranticApe,

After further investigation, I found out that you have a space in your filename. When you save the video, you named it as “air_essential_Full HD 1080p.mp4”. Please have it renamed and use “air_essential_Full-HD-1080p.mp4” instead. This will prevent any issues in playing or loading the video.

Please always remember that you are only allowed to insert direct video file url. Any 3rd party video hosting site url like Vimeo or Youtube is not allowed and will not work.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

I’ll try resizing the video although a 4k video will most likely always be heavier than something else. i can now see the video working it (i think it was chrome that was blocking it) so maybe the problem here is not only the video but something in the server directly.

Thanks for the support.

You are most welcome!
