Hi!

So recently my sites were hacked. It’s been a serious wake up call. I may have to remove a lot of files to really overcome the level of damage. I’m trying to preserve as much as I can.

I have never had to do this so I’m familiar if there is a way. CSS and Javascript I can copy but how about page content since its generated by shortcodes.

Sadly, I have only recently began experimenting with template manager so most of the content and layout don’t utilize the template feature.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks for writing in! We highly recommend that you create a staging site. The staging site can also serve as your backup in case something happens to the live site. Anyway, please check out this documentation to know more about how you can migrate the pages from one site to another:

@ruenel, Thank you for the prompt reply.

I was hoping if you could tell me of a manual solution. As mentioned, the WP installation has a lot of problem and simply migrating the site will take all the malware with it. I was hoping to remove the styles/html/content from the pages so that I can reinstall WP and import them. Is this possible?

Hi @kgpthemex,

Sorry to hear about your site, if you have a backup, restore your site from the previous date before the hacking occurred, contact your hosting they might able to restore your site. I’ll list below some good resources if you want to clean your site on your own, however, I recommend hiring a professional to do the site cleaning task for you:

If you’re not satisfied with cleaning the site and leaning to go rebuild the site from the ground up, then do so if the site is not that big, If you’re familiar with Cornerstone you can rebuild your pages quickly since you already have the content copy and images. Do this on a staging site and when this new site is done, delete everything on the live site including the database, and migrate this brand new site build.
