Ethos Image alt tags not displaying

Hi guys,

Ethos Image alt tags not displaying and SEO audit reports missing alt tags

As of 23rd July 2018 I am using latest versions of X-theme and Wordpress, Cornerstone.

By the way I’m a huge fan of X-theme, have been for ages.

I have been using various SEO audits and ALL of them are telling me I have some images with missing Alt tags on my home page, and the rest of my site as well.

I have checked all my media library and I have an Alt tag, title and description for every single image.
Also I have tried to use plugins that add Alt tags to images if they are missing, this hasn’t helped.

Any help would be appreciated. I can’t find anything useful in the knowledge base or forum.

My website is: htpps://coolcatwebdesign.com.au

Hi Chris,

In cornerstone you need to enter alt to the image element itself.

See screenshot

Thanks

Hi there,

I have an alt tag filled in for each image element. Here is a pic.

Hi Chris,

I checked your site code and can see that it is working.

See screenshot

Thanks for the quick reply,

Your Right the code says it SHOULD be working but multiple site audits say that many of my Image ALT TAGS are missing.

refer to my attached images.

Hi Chris,

I am sorry but I can’t tell why they are showing missing alt tags as I have no idea how they are checking and how their algorithm works.
But I am pretty sure that there are alt tags in your image elements as you can see by viewing your site source code.

I suggest you contact their support and see what they can find. - https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/support/

Thanks

Thanks Paul,

I will contact Screaming frog. However can you look at why the alt tags arn’t displaying on the website when i hover my mouse over the image?

The phone image is a prime example.

Hi Chris,

Please consider that the ALT tag is not the tooltip generator in the browsers. It is the title tag which causes to have a tooltip in the browser and it does not have anything to do with the SEO matters.

As the theme developers the only thing we can do is to add the ALT tag to the generated HTML source code which we already did. The rest depends on the tools that you use.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for clearing that up, it’s just frustrating for me that I have included Alt tags in ALL my images in the library and Alt tags inside the x-theme image elements on my homepage and I still get told by SEO site Auditors that my site has images with missing Alt tags.

Am I doing something wrong am I missing something obvious?

Kind Regards
Chris G

Hi Chris,

You are not doing anything wrong, you are correct in adding those alt tags and those are all visible and working in your live pages final output.

I am sorry but I have really no idea why those are listed with no alt tags.

Thanks

Thanks for your help.

I shall persist in my quest for the ALL powerful knowledge of SEO and the riddle of the missing Alt tags shall reveal itself over time.

You’re welcome!

Hey Chris - I did a crawl myself and I see a mix of issues. First, there are a couple of pages from the demo content linked within the site and xml sitemap. You’ll want to get those removed ASAP so search engines aren’t indexing them and hurting your content quality assessments. I didn’t even bother looking at the alt issues with those.

Once those are discounted, the remaining 22 images I see in the crawl are actually missing their alt text. The majority of them are coming from your portfolio items. There are also some smaller logos and graphics that also don’t have alt text associated with them.

I can’t see the content of the screenshots you included very well, but it looks like the majority of what’s in your list is covered by what I’m describing.

(I did do a quick scan pf the emo images and the majority of them do legit seem to be missing alt attributes, but some do seem to have alts but are misformated.)

Hope that helps?
