Essential Grid Update broken Vimeo embedded video playback

Today I updated Essential Grid to the latest version, release earlier this week by Themeco.

The update seems to have stopped any of our Essential Grid embedded videos playing more than 1 to 2 seconds…

On Our home page toward the bottom there is a grid of 12 videos.

Plus on our animation page, we have 4 blocks of 4. None of these play properly anymore… so panicing a bit here. Can I roll back to the previous Essential grid version?

I’ve restored a backup of our live site and that’s ok.

I’m using the latest Essential Grid to embed Vimeo videos too, but mine are all working correctly.

I checked yours and yes, after a second or two they stop. Mine are working fine.

Thanks @liquidguru yeah all works fine on your site. Plus the Vimeo videos are playing in a nice 16/9 window. All mine despite being set to 16/9 in essential grid, still display in a 4/3 window.

Out of interest have you purchased essential grid or are you using the version supplied by ThemeCo?

I purchased it.

You may well know, but in case you didn’t, you have to set the video size 16/9 in two places, in the Grid Settings and on the Grid Element

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Have your cleared the cache in WP Engine? After every updates, please make sure to clear the cache to make sure that the latest codes were being used. To know more about WPEngine caching system, please check it out here: https://wpengine.com/support/cache/

And you could also try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Hi, Many thanks for the reply.

I’ve tried clearing the cache and that has no effect.

I’ve also tried deactivating all the plugins bar Essential Grid and still the videos (with the latest version of Essential grid) only play the first two seconds before repeatedly re-loading…

Also I’ve double checked and the videos are set to 16:9 n the grid settings and the Grid Element, however they still appear in a 4:3 Vimeo player.

Since started this thread I’ve purhcased a licence for Essential Grid to see if I can get any extra support from the author ThemePunch.

For some reason, it wouldn’t let me import the json.

However, via Themepunch they logged into my account and made a new grid which worked as needed. I then compared the settings to work out what the difference was…

Essentially in the Lightbox tabs. The default settings I had were set to 800 x 600 for size (where it needs to be 960 x 540, or another 16:9 ratio) to make the player stay 16:9.

Plus I had autoplay set to on. Which was causing the strange bug with the Vimeo videos constantly reloading. Turning this off fixed the issue whilst still allowing the videos to autoplay when the lightbox opens.

Great!! Glad you got it worked out. I vaguely remember about the Lightbox tabs now…I had similar problems when first setting up my Video Grids, but it was a while ago.
