Essential Grid Portfolio

Hi,

Here’s what I have: An Essential Grid that features 6 Customer Portfolio Items.

Here’s what I want: I would like it if when you clicked on those Portfolio Items they went to an Essential Grid Gallery that displayed the photos that belong to that Customer Portfolio Item.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to do this. Maybe I’m thinking about how Portfolios in WordPress work?

I’m just confused as to how to go about this. I like Essential Grid and I’d like to use it and its photo filtering capabilities, but I’m not sure how to make that work with Portfolios. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Hi @gregorylmartin,

Thank you for reaching out to us. One way of achieving this could be using Custom Grid (see https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/core-anatomy-of-an-essential-grid/#custom-grid)

You can first create a grid based on images for customer portfolio items by following the above tutorial and then link each image with a separate page (a page that contains a relevant essential grid gallery) You need to add the gallery manually on each page and link it with the image.

Hope this helps!

So basically there’s no way to use Essential Grid with WordPress’s built in Portfolio?

That seems odd.

Hi Gregory,

Yes, there is no automatic and easier way to do it. The plugin isn’t a built-in one created by another author so it can’t be done without configuring and doing complex changes.

About Wordpress Portfolio, are you referring to the theme’s portfolio? You can use the portfolio as a source type for Essential Grid, but you can’t connect the gallery since it’s a specific feature of the portfolio where the grid has no connection with.

But, you can still achieve Essential Grid’s own gallery, please check this https://www.themepunch.com/faq/load-post-media-in-lightbox/

Thanks!

I am not referring to the theme’s portfolio. I’m just referring to WordPress’s built in Portfolio functionality.

I need to have galleries and be able to filter those galleries by tags I can easily assign to each photo. Photos are of huge importance to this particular site I’m working on. It’s for a Pool Builder.

I would like to use a plugin that utilizes WordPress’s Portfolio functionality so that I don’t have to make a new page for every new customer portfolio and then update whatever preview grid I have for the portfolio as a whole every time.

If anybody has any recommendations for that I’d be all ears. It just needs to be filterable and I’d prefer it work well with WordPress’s built in Portfolio functionality.

Love X theme by the way, I just haven’t had to use it for a client with big Portfolio needs yet and so I’m looking for the best way to solve this so that I don’t have to rework later.

Thanks!

Hi There,

To achieve that, please follow these steps:

  • Create a portfolio item set the thumbnail image, then add the gallery images to this portfolio, after that set the tags for this portfolio as well(create another portfolio item with the same steps):

  • Setup a Essential Grid Item. Under Source tab > Post type > select Portfolio Item. Select all the tags related to the portofio items under Post Categories:

  • Under the Nav-Filter-Sort tab, drag & drop the FILTER 1 to the dropzone:

  • For more information, please take a look at this:

Hope it helps

Really really appreciate the amount of work you guys are putting into these replies. Fantastic work.

@thai that method looks good if you only need to filter by tags that are applied to galleries generally, but I need to be able to filter by tags that are applied to each individual photo.

Essential Grid is a fantastic plugin, it’s just looking more and more like it wasn’t designed to support a robust and highly filterable gallery.

It’s fantastic at seemingly everything else, just not what I need in this very specific situation haha.

Thanks again for all the help you guys.

You’re most welcome! And yes, it could be also need some customization to achieve that given there are multiple setup and features made by multiple authors/developers. Thanks!
