Essential Grid is showing a post category which I haven't selected it to!

Hi, I’m using Essential Grid to show various post categories for a Team page on my site. I’ve created 4 separate grids, which have 1 post category assigned to each. I’ve just created a new category to only show on the News (blog) page. For some reason, which I can’t figure out, that new category is showing on each of the 4 grids! I’ve opened up each grid and made sure that only the category I wanted it to show was selected and resaved it, but I can’t stop it from showing the new category too!

The category that shouldn’t be showing is called ‘News’, yet it’s appearing in each grid. The 1 post that is currently in the ‘News’ category is a sample one I’ve used to just test it out and the title is ‘Title of Post’.

I’ll put the URL in a secure note as it’s being built on a temp link.

Hope you can help!

Thanks!

Hi @core365,

That is indeed a strange one. The only thing that I have in mind for this is the possibility that the new category has a conflict when it comes to the slug. Maybe for some reason, you have other features that use news as a slug. Would you please kindly add a new category and add another name and slug for it and assign a newly created post to it.

Then try to check and see if it works ok on the Grids. If yes, then please delete the category in question and use something similar but not exactly news for the name and slug of the category.

kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case if you still have problems.

Thank you.

Hi @christopher,

Thanks for your advice, however I’ve added in a different named category and a new post and that too is showing within the Essential Grid!

I’ll put the admin login in a secure note for you. Hopefully you’ll be able to see what’s going on because this has totally baffled me!

Thanks!

Hey @core365,

It seems the email is incorrect. Please check.

Thanks.

Hi, sorry, I forgot to add it back in as I had to revert to a backup version yesterday!

I’ll put it in a secure note for you.

Thanks!

Hey @core365,

One of the 3rd party plugins is causing the issue. Before reporting an issue to us, always ensure it’s not caused by common factors such as a 3rd party plugin conflict. Do all of the basic troubleshooting mentioned in our Common Issues article here: https://theme.co/docs/common-issues

Thanks.

Hi @christian,

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know. Are you able to tell me which 3rd party plugin it is, or is it a secret?!!

Cheers

Hello @core365,

The plugin in conflict is the Ultimate Category Excluder. Always look into any issues before or after you have installed and enabled a plugin. In some cases, an outdated plugin may also create issues on the site. Test for a plugin conflict must always be done when things seem off.

Best Regards.

Hi @ruenel,

Thanks for your explanation!

I only installed that plugin as I don’t know how to stop certain post categories showing on my blog page when you click on a month in the Archives widget. Do you know of any code to stop this from happening please?

I’m using Essential Grid to display posts on the Council Members page and I don’t want these to show on my blog/news page. I’ve already added code to the functions.php to stop showing those categories on the main blog page, however I can’t find a solution anywhere to stop them from being linked to the ‘Archives’ widget that’s down the right hand side of the blog/news page. That’s why I installed the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin.

I’d appreciate any help you can give.

I’ll put the URL in a secure note as it’s on a temp link.

Thanks!

Hello @core365,

Finding a solution to your on going issue won’t as it may still create further issues and conflict sooner or later. As I have checked your site, you are using the Post type which is generally intended for blog posts, news and articles. You have created your Council Members around with posts which is already incorrect. They only way you can get around this issue is to delete all your council members you have created as post. You will need to recreate them as use the Portfolio feature of the theme. Portfolio is a custom post type built in the theme. You can use the portfolio option for your council members. I am 100% sure that if you do this, when you check your blog index or any archive pages, no council members will be included and you do not even need the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin.

Meanwhile, if you are already satisfied with your current setup, we highly recommend that you contact the creators of the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin and ask them if there is a resolution to the conflict between the plugin and the grid.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi @ruenel,

I didn’t know that I shouldn’t have put together my Council Members page as posts, as I never even considered the Portfolio for it! I’ve now redone them using the Portfolio and as you thought, it has sorted out the issue with the wrong posts showing on the Archive widget.

Thanks for your help!

We are delighted to assist you with this.

Cheers!
