Essential Grid: HTML5 video starts muted auto-play unabled

Hi,

I’m struggling with the mute-function on my Essential Grid portfolio page. Although my videos were previously set to autoplay through an added java-script that played on hover, I removed that because I figured the new browser rules of autoplay-mode with audio enabled not being supported anymore, might conflict with that script.
However even on removing the script, I still can only unmute the videos if I enable the player-options to be visible, which I don’t want to.
I checked my Grid and the auto-play option in the lightbox setting is turned off.

Hope you can help me out here!

Thanks,

Jon

ps. I can actually still play the Slider videos on my homepage on hover, with audio unmuted (then again with some extra java-script) on all the browsers I use…(Chrome, Firefox and Safari)

Hi Jon,
Thanks for reaching out.

As you know about the Autoplay Policy Change, the Essential Grid author has added functionality to the lightbox option which allows autoplay videos muted, or wait for user interaction and play videos on demand unmuted.
And that is why the video can be only unmuted if any interaction has been made. You can check out this setting in your Grid settings > Lightbox tab.

Thanks

As said in my post, I disabled the auto-play option.
But although I added a play button overlay in the design of the video player, it’s not showing up on the website.

Hey Jon,

I checked your Essential Grid portfolio page and the grid just keeps on loading. It’s possible due to an error in your custom JS code.

Please temporarily remove all custom codes, switch to the parent theme, and deactivate all 3rd party plugins so we are sure that the issue is not caused by a 3rd party factor. If you haven’t done the basic troubleshooting steps yet, please also do them before we investigate.

If that is too much to ask or not possible to be done in your live site, please copy your live site to a staging server and give us the following information in a Secure Note and we’ll investigate if the issue you described is a bug in the Essential Grid plugin or not.

  • Admin level username and password

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks.
