Essential Grid for Custom User Profiles?

Firstly, how do we get support for Essential Grid when it’s bundled with Pro?

I’d like to know if it’s possible to enable Essential Grid for custom user roles other than the built-in ‘Admin, Editor, Author’ roles? Any filters or hooks for this? Currently, any user who has a custom user profile cannot access the Essential Grid UI because you appear to only be able to enable it for the default user roles in WP.

Hi @sguilliard,

Thanks for reaching out.

We do provide support for all bundled plugins, but for issues, we can only add it to our issue tracker and forward it to the plugin developers.

As for your question, I think that’s possible since you’re only allowing the entire plugin instead of specific features of the plugin. And it should be true regardless of the plugin. But, it can’t be done by the plugin itself and has to be done by another plugin that adds custom role and capabilities. May I know what plugin you use for the custom role so I could test it as well? I can’t promise any solution but getting more information will be helpful understanding the issue.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

Have currently got these installed:

wpfront-user-role-editor-personal-pro/wpfront-user-role-editor.php,
user-role-editor/user-role-editor.php

Hi @sguilliard,

I checked and looks like it’s not enough. Hiding from users could be done but allowing a hidden to a user isn’t possible. It mostly defaults to Admin.

Could you try this https://webcusp.com/how-to-allow-specific-user-to-edit-specific-page-post-in-wordpress/, make the author or editor with capabilities as admin (but not all).

Thanks!

Nope, that’s not helping.

I’m trying to allow access to the plugin ‘Essential Grid’ for a custom user role that isn’t one of the default ‘admin, editor, author’ roles. The link you provided only deals with individual posts.

From what I can see, the ‘Essential Grid’ plugin doesn’t detect any custom user roles so would need to be customised itself?

As an update, even if a secondary role is added to a user, the ‘Essential Grid’ menu disappears for that user.

Do we really have to renew ‘support’ with the plugin author just to get a proper answer to this?

Hello @sguilliard,

No, you do not have to renew support. Here’s what I will do. I will forward your thread to one of our developers so that they can communicate with the Essential plugin author. Only the plugin authors can give you the correct answer whether what you have in mind is possible or not.

Please bear with us.

Hi @sguilliard,

We have contacted the author of the Essential Grid plugin, we will get back to you as soon as we get a reply from them.

Hi @sguilliard

After asking Essential Grid about how we can use custom user roles in their plugin. Here is their response.

Unfortunately this isn’t something that’s currently possible without code modification. But it’s definitely a cool idea, so I’ll go ahead and add it to the official request list on your behalf so it can get reviewed for a future update by our development team.

Sadly, the feature is not yet available in Essential Grid but thanks for sharing your thoughts about it.
