Essential Grid Erratic Nav-filter Button Behavior

I am having some unpredictable behavior with Nav-filter buttons. I have successfully used these kind of Essential Grid navigation buttons on a number of sites. They have not been difficult to use. But I have run into a challenge while updating a client’s site.

The test page I am working on is https://1stgenyale.org/home-test-2.
The two grids in question are:
pastevent2 and annualevents2 located below Past Events and Annual Events down the page.
(note: the site navigation will tend to take you away from the important page-- /home-test2)

Filter navigation has been added to these two grids.

The problematic behavior is that some of the buttons work as expected while other return an error message of “No items for this filter” (a simple bit of text lurking behind other buttons, centered in the page.) And another kind of error displays only one of four or five posts of a given Category or Tag.

Here is a list of the failures I am seeing on my Past Events and Annual Events grids.

PAST EVENTS 2
These buttons either reported “No items for this filter” or they show only partial displays of the Category/Tag

annual
events
at assembly (only one of five shows)
awards
books
conference
FSY
Giving
Networking (only one of four shows)
Resources

ANNUAL EVENTS 2

At Assembly (only three of five show)
FSY (only two of three show)

Hello @johnboak,

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully we cannot check your site as of this moment because the given credentials are not working for us. The password seems incorrect. Kindly check it out.

Meanwhile, please be advised that the filter button’s sole purpose is to filter out the grid items assigned to the category or tag. When a certain filter button displays nothing, that simply means that there are no grid items assigned to that category or tag.

To fully understand how the filter button works, let say you are loading 24 post items with different categories and tags in your grid. As soon as you click the filter button, it will only display grid post items related to the filter button. For example, if you click on the “Media” filter button and it displays 2 grid post items, that simply means that out of the 24 grid items loaded on your page, only two grid items are related to the “Media” filter button. Please do not expect the button filter to load all the grid items that have been assigned to the “Media” category or tag where in your Grid settings, you only have set the grid to load 24 items.

Hope this helps.

I’m not quite sure I understood what you wrote: “Please do not expect the button filter to load all the grid items that have been assigned to the “Media” category or tag where in your Grid settings, you only have set the grid to load 24 items.”

If I have specified 24 items max, and only one shows up after clicking the “networking” button, despite there being 5 “networking”-tagged posts, is that not a malfunction?

Plus, many of the buttons return nothing but the phrase “No items for this filter” despite their being tags that should trigger display. Other buttons work just as expected.

I have used Essential Grid on other sites with no problem. Here is an example: https://neuro-architectology.com/resources/

I have checked that site’s Essential Grid specifications and details to see if I am missing something obvious [of course, that is still a possibility :–) ]

I greatly appreciate your work looking into this. I am now stalled in a proposed conversion of the 1stGenYale site to post-based content publishing. I hope we can figure out a way to make the nav-filters work. Thanks

Hello @johnboak,

The given credentials still do not work for us. The username or password seems incorrect.
Kindly double-check it again so we can check your grid settings.

Thanks.

That is odd. I just copy-pasted the credentials right from the “Secure Note” in this forum. And it took me into the admin. Should I make a new user and new credentials?

Hi @johnboak,

Yes, please create a new username and password and put it again in a secure note.

Thank you.
