Embedded DropBox videos not playing on Safari

We have several videos embedded on our site residing in DropBox.

Up until now, they worked fine on all browsers.

Currently they don’t seem to load and play on Safari but work fine on Chrome and Brave.

Scroll down past the first video. Subsequent 3 are hosted on DropBox.

An ideas?

Hello @himoud,

You seem to have the same issue as stated here:

Please be aware that we do not have any control over the Safari browser. Your video could not be loaded in Safari because of its video format or how the video is converted.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks @ruenel.

I’m not sure it’s the same issue, but sounds similar.

The videos were working fine up until 2 weeks ago. The post referenced was back in September.

The way the videos are coded work on Safari when played through the DropBox portal. I suspect this has something to do with recent releases of WordPress or even X theme.

Hello @himoud,

Please understand that the video plays in Chrome and Firefox. It is only in Safari that it is not playing.

The video is loaded the same way for all of the browsers. Each of the browsers renders or plays the video differently. Some browsers may even need a codec to play the video. Only Safari does not play the video which could mean that there is something between Safari and Dropbox videos.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks again for getting back to me and persevering with this issue.

The embedded source link you referenced works fine in Safari when you paste in the browser. For some reason, more recently (past 2 weeks) the sources links do not when work in Safari when you embed them but work fine when entered directly into the browser. That’s why I suspect it might be something to do with recent updates as oppose to changes in Safari.

Hello @himoud,

Loading a video URL in Safari is more like playing the video by using Safari as the player. Displaying the video on your site and then let Safari render the page so that you can play the video is a different process. Please be advised that we do not have any control over a browser. We can surely identify if the theme is the problem because your video will not play in ALL the browsers and this is not the case. We highly recommend that you host your video on Vimeo, Youtube, or just simply upload the video in your site’s media gallery to make sure that the video on the page is cross-browser compatible.

Hope this makes sense.
