Editor Role: Can't update pages or access Cornerstone

I am trying to give an ‘editor role’ the ability to update pages on my website.

I have created an Editor role in wordpress.

I have also given the Editor access (have ticked everything while testing!) through the Cornerstone settings option (see screenshot below).

I have cleared the cache but the Editor still can’t update pages in Cornerstone - see screenshot below:

Hope you can help as I can’t work out why it’s not working!!

Hey Barbara,

Thank you for reaching out. Please review the steps below to resolve this.

  1. Check the WordPress role capabilities first – In your second screenshot the Editor sees only “View” on each page, with no “Edit”, “Quick Edit” or “Trash”. Those links come from WordPress itself, and Cornerstone only adds “Edit with Cornerstone” once WordPress allows the user to edit that page. This means the role is missing the capabilities to edit pages created by another user (edit_others_pages, edit_published_pages, edit_pages and publish_pages). Please open Users > the Editor user and confirm the Role dropdown is set to the built-in “Editor”. If you created the role with a plugin such as User Role Editor, Members or PublishPress Capabilities, open that role there and enable the capabilities above, or simply assign the user to the built-in Editor role as a quick test.

  2. Test with plugins deactivated – If the user is already on the built-in Editor role, temporarily deactivate all non-Themeco plugins (especially any role, membership or security plugin), log in as the Editor again and check whether “Edit” and “Edit with Cornerstone” now appear on the Pages list. Reactivate plugins one at a time to find the one removing the capabilities.

  3. Match the Cornerstone permission to the actual role – Once “Edit” appears, go to Cornerstone > Settings > Permissions and make sure the role selected in the dropdown is the exact role assigned to the user. A custom role appears under its own name, and toggles set for “Editor” do not apply to it. Please also enable “Pages” and “Templates” there.

If the issue persists, please provide your System Info (WP Admin > Cornerstone > System Info), the list of capabilities assigned to the Editor role (from the role plugin if you use one), and any browser console errors for further analysis.

Best Regards.
