Editor not loading after update (PRO 3.0.1)

Just updated, and now I am unable to edit pages, headers, or footers. The loading wheel just spins and spins and spins…

Hi Ken,

We will appreciate if you can share with us the URL/User/Pass of your website in question using the Secure Note feature of the post.

Meanwhile, we will be grateful if you reply back with the result of the steps below:

  1. Change the theme from Child Theme to Parent theme and test the case.
  2. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Thank you.

Hey Ken,

I see that the live preview is broken still. Would you mind copying your site to a staging server so we can investigate without third-party plugins?

Please then give us the following:

  • Live site FTP access (ask your host about this if you don’t have it)
  • Staging site WordPress Admin access.
  • Staging site FTP access

Thanks.

Yeah, I don’t know how to do those things…

Hi Ken,

I was just checking your site again and everything seems to be working now. Perhaps this was just a caching issue? Or maybe you changed something else that resolved it?

Still not working for me. I tried reactivating some plugins, but I still can’t get it to work. One issue that I have figured out, is the SG Optimizer Plugin. When I deactivate it, the page builder will load, but not completely, I still can’t edit anything. Either way I need to be able to use that plugin, so I really don’t know what to do…

Update

I went through a few of my other sites, ran the theme update, then the plugin updates, and everything worked fine. They all use the same configuration of host, theme, plugins etc., with no problems at all…

Hey Ken,

There must be something unique in your setup that is causing the issue. It’s usually caching related.

I tried to login to your site again but I got this.

Please have your host fix that as that is server related.

Thanks.

Yeah, I get that quite often as well, I’m not sure why, but if you just refresh the page, you’ll get in.

*** Update

I tried restoring a back-up, and updating everything again, same problem. Then I restored another back-up, deleted the theme and reinstalled the theme, and so on. I spoke to Siteground at length about the issues, and they said there are “several” errors when the composer is launched. I attached their findings in a secure note.

Hi Ken,

Did you happen to change the login details of the site?

I tried to login and the details are not working anymore:

Based on the error message that you are getting is seems that you will need to fully clear your site and browser cache cleared.

Yes, I did. This is an enormous problem, and I’ve been working with the hosting company to resolve it, despite the fact that it’s a theme issue. You guys respond once every 24 hours and I need help faster than that. It’s been a week now and the issue is no closer to being resolved. As a result, I decided to recreate the entire site from scratch on a fresh Wordpress install, which I’ll swap in for the existing one once it’s complete. However, I’ve uploaded the latest version of the theme, and attempted to upload the child theme, but received an error saying that the parent theme can’t be found. So, yeah, not off to a great start here.

Hi Ken,

In that case, please provide your latest credentials so we could continue checking.

And perhaps you installed a child theme? Child themes are the only one that needs a parent theme. But we’ll check again once we get into it.

Thanks!

Ok, I’ve added you as a new user, details in the secure note.

Here’s where I’m at:

  1. I sorted out the child theme issue on the new install, where everything is working smoothly. You can tell me if this matters or not, but when I download the pro theme, my computer automatically opens the zip file. I have to compress it to upload it to Wordpress. This is where the child theme issue came up. This time, I was able to just save the zip file intact and upload it, and this worked fine. Please let me know if this matters. Regardless, I will eventually swap out the old WP install with this one, however, I need to find out how to resolve the issue because I’m now having it on another site.

  2. I’ve gone through the whole process of testing for theme and plugin conflicts already, so this is not the problem, something else is going on.

Cheers,

Ken

Hi Ken,

I’ve temporarily disabled javascript minification in SG Optimizer and while it was off the builder works. Could you please try this and let us know if that works for you?

Ok, that absolutely worked, Thank you. Are there any plans to patch that moving forward, or will I just never be able to use that function?

Hey Ken,

In the recent release update, we have Replace js library containing regex that would prevent script minifiers from completing.

Pro 3.0.4 is now available in automatic updates! This release contains fixes for several issues, like you have mentioned above, so be sure to check out the changelog (https://theme.co/changelog/). Please do update to the latest version.

After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Regards.

Hey thanks! Just to let you know I turned everything back on in the sg optimizer, and ran into the same issue (after updating to 3.0.4. Then I deactivated a couple of the options and it worked again. So just heads up, it looks like there is still some kind of conflict going on there.

Hey Ken,

Though we have discovered a problem with our theme that conflicts with minifiers, this will not always mean that Pro nor our products, in general, is the cause of the issue. Optimization plugins often combine scripts and reorder them and the common cause of issues as some scripts should not be combined, minified nor re-ordered. That is the case with our products so please contact Siteground or the developers of SG Optimizer to exclude everything from Pro from any kind of optimization. Don’t worry, our themes are optimized out of the box so they don’t need third-party optimization.

If the issue persists at this stage, you now know that it’s not Pro that is causing the issue but incorrect optimization of third-party scripts.

We’d be interested to know if Pro has conflicts with SG Optimizer but this should be done in a test website with fresh WordPress install, Pro and SG Optimizer only. You can let us know the results and give us WordPress Admin and FTP access to the test website so we could investigate if there are issues.

Thanks.
