Editing pages has become impossible

Hi guys,

i’ve been using your themes for years, and i haven’t run into much trouble in that time. Until now.

I use Pro for 3 different sites, but one of them, the main one, has troubles loading cornerstone. It starts loading, enters cornerstone, but then the cornerstone logo keeps beating, without any page preview popping up. Without any error messages. The rest is there and i can even select template manager etc. But it’s impossible to edit pages right now.

I noticed that when i go to theme options, the same thing happens. Theme options load, i can do everything, but the page is not showing. Instead it shows a beating Pro logo.*

I’m not sure what caused this. There has been an update last week, but we also had a few days downtime.

Can you please help me out with this?

Thanks in advance,

greetings Tommy

Hello Tommy,

Sorry to hear your website’s having the issues. Please follow up the steps below:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list here. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. Click here for more information.

  2. Go to X > Settings and click on the Clear Style Cache button.

  3. If you’re using a CDN(ex: CloudFlare), please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services. For the CloudFlare you also need to follow the steps below besides the developer mode:
    https://xthemetips.com/using-cloudflare-rocket-loader-with-x-pro-and-x5/928/1

  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

  5. Remove custom CSS and Javascript from the options or Child Theme and test the case.

  6. Reset your htaccess file by renaming it to .htaccess-bak. Then in WP Admin Menu, go to Settings > Permalinks and just click the Save Changes button.

  7. Increase the PHP Memory Limit of your server. Click here for more detailed information and how to increase the PHP memory limit.

If you still have problems kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Thank you.

I tried and checked it all. It just keeps on doing the same. I left a secure note with the login credentials. Thanks for helping me out!

Btw. i double checked the other 2 sites and it seems that theyre on pro version 2.1.5. The site with problems has the update 2.1.6.

@vergaderlocatie Try clearing the browser cache and/or CDN (if you haven’t already). That helped me last time in similar situation.

@dshakya I cleared all possible caches, from browser cache, to varnish, to redis etc. And it’s not just on my system. The client also edits the pages and has the same problems. I’m actually quite sure now it’s the new update, because on the other 2 sites i did not apply it yet. My next option is to rollback. But i’m not entirely sure how to do that with the pro theme.

I tried updating to 2.1.6 on another site, and guess what. The same thing is happening.

@thai Have you read this? Not sure if i need to mention or not haha.

Hello There,

I have carefully investigated the issue and it leads me to found out that a certain Google Tag Manager plugin broke your site. It added the code to the front end but broken the body tag.

I have inspected the settings and it mentions that the current selected setting is experimental which could break your frontend which it did.

Please change your setting and add it to the footer or any other setting that is not experimental.

Thanks.

@RueNel did you manage to enter cornerstone and start editing pages that way? I selected footer of the page and after that i deactivated it, but cornerstone still has the same problems.

Hello There,

I was able to edit the homepage with the Pro editor. Please check out my screenshot below:

It was only after I have disabled the Minify option in Performance > Minify. I disabled the JS and CSS. Please keep in mind that the JS and CSS files in the Pro theme is already minified. Having to enable this setting will be overkill and would potentially create issue especially with caching. You may only combined it. Do not minify the files again to avoid issues.

Hope this helps.

This really helps! Thanks for making it work again. It just staggers me that after 2 years of using that setting, things went sideways. I would’ve expected trouble like this alot earlier. Any idea why? Anyways like i said, thanks for the great support!

Hi There,

Glad were able to help

When you update your Theme, you will need to follow the steps below.

  • You need to purge your server cache (we also recommend to disable CSS/JS autominifications as mentioned above).
  • If you’re using a service like CloudFlare, you need to clear it’s cache by login into their account.
  • You need to clear style cache under X/Pro -> Settings area.
  • Finally, you also need to clear your browser cache before testing your site.

Thanks!
