Edit the _content-404.php

Hi,
I have created a website using x, only learnt about child themes when i had finished, so assume it is too late to make my site a child? I want to edit the text displayed in the 404 error page. I know it is in the _content-404.php, but is it ok to edit this?
I tried using the x extension 404 plugin, but i would have to create a new page for it to go in, and when i do the page seems to be created off some weird template that i dont know how to change. I really just want to create a blank page that looks like my home page, with only the header and footer and menu, and then add a section for my error text.

Assume the easiest way around this is to just edit the text in the _content-404.php?

Hi @King67,

The easiest way is to install Custom 404 and create your page. You can change the template under page attributes.
