Edit Template List in Page Attributes

Hi there,

I’ve been using X and Pro for years, and find myself always choosing the same few page templates to start building a new page. Is there a way I can: 1) prevent specific template options from appearing in the menu under the Page Attributes module; 2) Rename existing templates; and 3) Re-order the options and/or set assign a certain template to be the “default” template?

Thanks much

Hi @flownonfiction,

On the root folder of the theme \wp-content\themes\pro | \wp-content\themes\x, you can see all template files. It start with template- like template-blank-1.php. To unlist or prevent it from showing on Page attributes page template, please copy the specific template file on your child theme (root folder of child theme), then open the copied template remove this part line from the top:
TEMPLATE NAME:

Same procedure from #1. This time, edit the text right after TEMPLATE NAME: to whatever that suits your need.

You have to understand page template hierarchy. See this:
https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/template-files-section/page-template-files/ see it under this Title: Page Templates within the Template Hierarchy

Hope this helps.

Thank you! Haven’t tried it yet but it all makes sense.

You’re welcome!
We’re glad @Lely were able to help you out.
