Dynamically pull Featured Image from External Blog

I have a client that is interested in linking to external blog posts, but doesn’t want to go through the trouble of manually updating the featured image. The way I’ve set this is up is to have posts that are in a Link post format. I add the link of the blog post, but have been having to manually add the image from the posts.

  1. Is there a way to dynamically pull the social sharing/featured image of an external blog post that is linked in the link field of Link format post?

  2. Also if the post doesn’t have a social sharing/featured image then pull a default image?

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully what you are trying to do is beyond the capability of the theme and WordPress itself. You may need a 3rd party plugin or contact a 3rd party developer to do this customization for you.
