Double clear icons in search element

Hi all,

Not sure if i have found a bug in your search element, but on a test site i have just set up, even if i disable all of the plugins and put the search element on a blank page, when you enter text in the search field, a clear icon appears alongside the clear icon already there. I added a themeco ready made header with a search box and this is what i see:

The site is: https://squirrelsites.co.uk

Any ideas? I cant see a way in the element properties to clear the blue x that appears.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for reaching out.
I have checked your website and found the issue. It seems that there might be some different reasons behind your issue. I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.

1.Theme Related Issue
2.Plugin Conflict
3.Theme Update related issue
4.Child Theme Related issue
5.CSS/JS Customization
6.Disabling Cache
7.Disabling CDN

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above helps, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

Hi,

I have tried all of the above to no avail. Its a fresh website so no extra code added etc and after all the plugins were disabled i still get the same thing, I dont see it on an ipad though.

I will add the site url and logon details in a secure note for you.

thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

I have checked the same version in my local environment but didn’t find the issue. I have also created a test page and added the search* element and found the same problem. It seems it might be with your installation, I would suggest you update the Pro to its latest version, and if that does not help, please copy your live site to a staging server so we could troubleshoot freely without breaking your live site.
And give us access to the secure note including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Hi,

Feel free to do what you like as this is a blank site that I haven’t really done anything to so it doesn’t matter even if i need to recreate it.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

I have checked it thoroughly and found that you are using the Starter stack which does not have the CSS code which suppresses the close icon of the search box. Whereas other predefined stacks have the code to remove it. I would suggest you use any of the predefined stacks, or you can check the following article where you can find the code to remove the default close icon.

https://medium.com/@rion.mrk/how-to-remove-x-icon-from-search-input-field-or-input-type-search-db3c808405fb

Please remember that the above code will work if copied as it is and doesn’t conflict with any existing style.
Please note that the code provided serves only as a guide to help you get started custom coding on your own if there’s no option offered in our theme or the products we bundle.
We really do not provide support for custom codes which means we can’t fix it in case it conflicts with something on your site nor will we enhance it. Further customization should be directed to a third-party developer or you can avail of One, where we answer the questions beyond normal theme support.

Thanks

Ill give that a go. Would explain why im seeing this as this is the first time that i am using the starter stack as i have used a stack on my other sites. i believe i wanted to use the starter stack so that i could do a layout for the custom 404. Thanks for your help @tristup
Much appreciated.

Chris
