Domain redirects and Cornerstone Preview URL problem

Hello, I have a specific issue loading the preview in Cornerstone / Global Block Editor.

I will try and explain this as best I can but please let me know if you need further clarification:

I am developing a new website for a client on DOMAIN1.COM. The client’s current website is on DOMAIN2.COM. They will be using DOMAIN1.COM as the main domain in the future as they are changing company branding.

I have setup a redirect in Cpanel to send people from DOMAIN1.COM to DOMAIN2.COM if they hit the homepage, as the company have started to use DOMAIN1.COM on some of their new advertising,

The issue I have is that if I try to open any of the editors that use the homepage of DOMAIN1.COM to load the preview, I am given an error message saying there is a conflict. Normally I would update my hosts file so that I do not get forwarded to DOMAIN2.COM, but unfortunately both domains are on the same IP address, so I cannot control this via a hosts file change.

Is there anyway I can force the preview to load using a different URL, such as DOMAIN1.COM/NEW-PAGE ?

If there are any other solutions to this that don’t involve moving the entire site to a new development server, I would be happy to hear it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi @littleshock,

Thanks for reaching out.

I suggest that you duplicate your homepage so that you can edit the homepage to the new URL DOMAIN1.COM/NEW-PAGE.

Hope that helps and let us know how it goes.

Thank you.

Hello,

I have already done this and it does allow me to edit the homepage at the new URL using Cornerstone. However when trying to use the Theme Options, Global Blocks, or any other tool that loads a preview. It uses the “Front Page” as set within Wordpress which always uses the top level domain - DOMAIN1.COM - this activates the redirect and the preview won’t load.

I hope I have explained that properly?

If you know of a way to set DOMAIN1.COM/NEW-PAGE as the “Front Page” so that the preview uses this URL to load, that would be great.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @littleshock,

There’s no such an option to set the DOMAIN1.COM/NEW-PAGE as the Front Page because when we are going to set that page in the Dashboard > Readings it will also have a redirect problem. I suggest that you will create a subdomain in your DOMAIN2.COM and transfer all your files there and do the development.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hello,

That is not an ideal solution, but I understand this is an unusual problem. Thank you for the information, I will make the move to a subdomain and publish to the live site once development is complete.

Thank you for your help.
