The background image with parallax effect is possible in the theme. Please insert a section and your background image. You may also enable the parallax option to replicate the effect on the example site. Please see V2 Sections, Rows and Columns in this knowlegde base article:
If you are not seeing the background option in your section settings, you need to turn on the Advanced Mode by going to the Settings > Preferences > Advanced Mode
