Display problem with shop sidebar on certain categories of WooCommerce

Hi there,

For my WooCommerce shop I have created a side bar which displays my product categories. In the sidebar defined that it also gets displayed on all of the category pages and not only on the main shop page. That seems to work but it has a strange behaviour on some of them. In the attached screenshot you may see the problem:

  1. the main categories are displayed correctly
  2. the category “papeterie” is selceted, the sub-categories show up correctly and the other main categories remain visible
  3. the category “living” is selected, the sub-categories show up correctly but the main category “papeterie” is not visible anymore
  4. the category “poster” is selected, the sub-categories show up correctly but the main category “papeterie” is not visible anymore

Do you have an idea what might cause that strange behaviour?

This is the shop page I’m referring to: https://www.schoenunbunt.ch/shop/

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi Janine,

Thanks for reaching out.
What I have understood after visiting the given URL, there are three main categories papeterie, poster, and living. But these three main categories are always visible even living or poster are selected. If you are referring to the URL, it only shows in form of /parent category/subcategory/, as the living and poster itself are parent category it will not show another parent category in the URL. If that is not the case and you are trying to point out something else, please provide any screenshot marked with the issue or any video that helps us to recognize the problem.

Thanks

Hi Tristup,

thank you for your feedback. How am I able to upload a video?
My provided screenshots shows the four versions of the way it looks.

You are right. There are three main categories: papeterie, poster and living. When I click on living or poster it shows the sub-categories of those elements and the both main categories. But papeterie suddenly disappears. My wish is that all of the main categories remain visible no matter which one is active.

Hi Janine,

If I am understand it correctly that the sidebar widget is not showing the categories uniformly while clicking into other two category Living and Poster. Please remember that the WooCommerce Product Category widget is not related to the Navigation and it shows categories randomly along with the category page it showing.
If that is not the case and you are trying to point out something else, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Yes, I think you understand that right. I know that it is not related to the menu. But all parent categories should be visible no matter on which category I click. I tried to visualize it in a video:

I will send you the login-credentials in a secure note.

Hi Janine,

The option Hide empty categories is the reason behind your issue. Although you have assigned the subcategories to the products, the main category is not assigned yet, and that is why no product is shown under that category. I went ahead and assigned one of the sub-category products to it, and now it shows with the other two main categories.

Please find the product in the secure note, which assigned to the main category. Please remove the category if that is not required.

Thanks

Ah, alright. Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I checked that because otherwise it would display the unkategorisiert and I’m not able to delete that one.

In that case I’ll just assign the products to the main category as well.

Hi Janine,

Glad that we are able to help you.

Thanks
