Disappearing background images after updating Cornerstone

We have three separate sites that were built several years ago, and after updating them today (specifically X from 10.6.8 to 10.7.1 and Cornerstone from 7.6.8 to 7.7.1) several portions of the site have had their background images disappear. All the information shows up in Cornerstone, including the image in the sidebar preview, but the images no longer show on the front-end or in the Cornerstone preview.

After investigating it appears to be happening on Classic Column (v2), not on sections. It also disappears after updating Cornerstone, not after updating just X. Any thoughts?

Hey @launchcatapult,

Thanks for writing in! I was able to replicate the issue on my local WP install using the latest Cornerstone version 7.7.1. I believe that this is a bug in the latest release. I already have reported this to our developers for further investigation. A patch update should be releasing anytime soon.

Please bear with us.

Great to hear! We’ll keep an eye out for the update. Thank you!

You are most welcome, @launchcatapult

Wanted to confirm that 7.7.2 was released and has solved the problem on the sites in question. Thank you for the quick solution!

Music to our ears. Have a great day.

Hi all, I have the exact same problem but updating to version 7.7.2 didn’t help. I disabled the W3TC plugin on a trial basis and now the background images are displayed.

The problem seems to be a conflict with the Lazy loading settings in W3TC: The “Process background images” option in W3 Total Cache must be disabled.

Hello @wrkotte,

It seems that the issue may be related to aggressive caching. I recommend purging all caches within the W3 Total Cache plugin and also clearing your browser cache. Additionally, you can go to your WordPress Dashboard → Cornerstone → Settings → Clear Cache to make sure everything is fully refreshed for proper rendering of the latest code.

Thanks
