Difficulty Updating X Theme and Cornerstone

Hello all,

We have been trying to fix certain issues for some time now and are at the end of our expertise. We bought a single licence for cornerstone aswell as X Theme. Our Site is not functioning properly, so we need to find a way to securely update both and keep the website as is for our client - at least we think this is the solution to the clearly visible issues of the site not loading styles when logged in to WP and the Galleries not loading fully (eventhough being there).

Do you have any way to help us? We will gladly give you access to the site if further investigation is needed!

Kind Regards.

Hi Susanne,

Thanks for reaching out.
I have checked your website and found that you are using an older version of X i.e. 4.2.2 whereas you have updated the Cornerstone to 7.1.9. The version of Cornerstone is not compatible with the version of X you are using. As you are using the older version, I would suggest you please copy your live site to a staging server and update the X by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates or by downloading from your Themeco Account
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be on the latest version

And If everything goes fine in your staging then migrate the staging server to live and check if that resolves your problem or not.

Thanks

Thank you @tristup!

A question though: The probability, that the site is not going to be displayed properly, should be quite high seeing that the version of the X Theme, which is currently installed is so old right?

I can’t imagine it working as intended updating basically 6 versions.

Hi Susanne,

The current version of X is 10.2.2 whereas the installed version is 4.2.2. There are a few things like shortcodes and functions that are already deprecated, so it is suggested to follow the way explained in the above reply while updating the X.

Thanks

Hey @tristup ,

So we tested the solution on a staging server. Generally it worked out quite well, although we ran into an issue. Cornerstone still won’t allow us to edit content, we think it is because our X Theme is not validated. But we cannot validate on the main site due to the issues noted above!

For now we haven’t moved the changes to live because of this, also because the WP Update crashes the staging site aswell but that is a different issue.

Do you suggest we upload the theme manually to the Live site (because it didn’t break the staging site) and just try to validate the Theme then?

Hi Susanne,

It will be very difficult to understand why the Cornerstone is not working on the Staging server. I would suggest you share the login credentials for the staging server and fix the problem before migrating it to the live server.

Thanks

Hey @tristup,

You should be able to log in to the staging server with the details from the original post. Thank you for checking!

Hey Sussane,

I was able to validate your staging area without any issues. I was also able to update the X theme and Cornerstone plugin to the latest version. Here’s what I did:

  • Validate your staging website
  • Go to the theme page and activate another theme
  • Delete X theme
  • Uninstall and delete the Cornerstone plugin
  • Go to my themeco account and download the latest version of X ( 6.2.2)
  • Upload and activate the latest version of X
  • Install the latest Cornerstone plugin
  • Update WordPress to 6.2

Hope that helps.

Hey @marc_a

I see what you did and understand. Yet editing is still not available on the staging site! Before we move the changes to Live, we need to be able to do this.

Thank you for your time!

Hi Sussane,

My colleague has updated the X and Cornerstone to their latest versions, and I have set the Permalink to %postname% from Settings > Permalink, and now the Cornerstone is working fine. I would suggest you check, and if everything is fine, you can migrate it to your live server.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Hey @tristup

Could you please check the Live Site again? After all changes and migrating the staging site, cornerstone is back to it’s old tricks and will not let us build. We changed the Permalink, as you did but no result yet.

Hi Sussane,

I have checked your live site and found the issue you described here. I would suggest you follow the steps performed by my colleague Marc and update the X once again to its latest version, i.e. 10.2.3, and check if that resolves your problem or not.

Thanks
