Different layout for front page and posts index page (aka blog)

I was wondering if it’s possible with Theme X to have a different layout for the front page and the posts index page (aka blog page)? I know the way to set up the layout for all pages is to edit the “global layout”, but what if I want a different layout for my blog page?

More specifically, what I want is not to have a sidebar for the front page, but I do want one for the blog page. Can you help? Thanks.

Hi @Choi,

Thanks for writing in.

You can remove the sidebar of your front page using CSS. Please share us your URL so we could check what CSS to use on your setup.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. The url for my website is currently: http://66.147.244.211/~skyhigi2/ (It’s a temporary address.)

Hi There,

When we set Content Layout to Content Left, Sidebar Right or Sidebar Left, Content Right, it will give us sidebar on Blog index page, archive pages, and single post. For normal page like your homepage, we have page template options. The template you will choose will define where that page has sidebar or not. That means choosing any other templates without sidebar will give you fullwidth template.

So just to clarify, we can only get sidebar on normal pages if we choose template with sidebar. That means we don’t custom CSS to achieve this: what I want is not to have a sidebar for the front page, but I do want one for the blog page

Hope this helps.

Ok, thank you. Your reply made it clear to me that I can modify the layout for “pages” through “site layout” and the layout for the posts index page through the “content layout” option. That takes care of my problem. Thank you!

You’re welcome.
