Different Image Sizes

Hey, until recently I didn’t realize that Wordpress automatically creates multiple sizes of each image uploaded.

However, now that I’m trying to take advantage of this and update some pages, I can’t figure out how to access these in Cornerstone.

In Gutenberg, for example, when you add an image, you simply pick thumbnail, small, med, large, etc… and the appropriate image is used.

In Cornerstone, though it’s possible to change the size of how the image is displayed, it’s the original image being posted.

On a page where several dozen images are being used as thumbnails, having to load full-sized images is brutal for page speed. Where is the option to display the physically smaller image?

As of now in Cornerstone there’s no such option to select small resolution image that WordPress creates while uploading images. There are two options:

  • Add the image URL directly in the Cornerstone image browser. To get the image URL and file name, you will have to use FTP software like Filezilla. After that you can get the images under /wp-content/uploads/ directory.

  • You can also use 3rd party plugins that can be used to browse media uploads. Here’s a plugin that you can test.

Please note that I haven’t personally tested the plugin. I would also like to let you know that plugin name I have shared is not a official Themeco advice. It’s just a personal input that I have shared with you to help you get started. 3rd party plugins may cause some issues and we won’t be able to provide support in that scenario.

I’m not quite sure I understand…

So I have to resize my own images offline in order to avoid large file sizes in my thumbnails?

Also, I don’t imagine there’s a way to use both Cornerstone and Gutenberg to edit the same page, is there?

That would resolve the issue wonderfully.

  • Yes if possible. Please take note that the image element in Cornerstone has a retina option feature. To avoid any accidental small image selection/insertion in the element, only the full original image size is accessed by the image element.

  • No that will not be possible. You are not allowed to switch between editors. When you do, any changes outside of Cornerstone will be discarded when you edit it back inside in Cornerstone. It might even corrupt cornerstone date which may no longer allow you to edit the page in Cornerstone.

Thanks for the help, I think I just misunderstood the initial response.

I found the file names in my FTP, and just copy and paste the URL as suggested.
