Hi there. I am setting up different layouts for different categories of posts. The difference is that heros (hero colors and animation) will change subject to category, whereas dynamic content (title, date, tag links) will remain the same. Generally speaking, can you say what would be the best way to structure this: 1) Different conditional layouts (in layout builder), i.e. one layout per category vs. 2) different sections conditionally displayed subject to post category, but in a single layout?
Hello @nblund,
Thanks for writing in!
Having to edit one single layout is easy. The only drawback is that as you have many different sections that will display conditionally, editing the sections will be complicated. Unlike when you have different layouts that are assigned to different categories wherein if you have a problem, you can easily pinpoint which layout to edit without affecting other layouts and potentially not changing something by accident.
Hope this makes sense.
Hi @ruenel. How about speed - could my decision to go with one rather than the other solution impact performance? Thanks again.
Hey @nblund,
Performance-wise, there isn’t any difference since the conditions were rendered dynamically behind the scene. And also, almost the same set of conditions were present whether using a dedicated archive layout or just one archive layout.
Hope this helps.
Excellent. Thanks so much.
