Difference between The Grid preview and live

Hi,

Im using The Grid in preview mode for a new style which looks very different in preview to the live site.

https://www.shapecast.com/blog/

Ive cleared as many caches as I can find, including CloudFlare, Autooptimise and SG optimizer. However, the live site still doesnt look like the style Ive accepted in The Grid.

What else could be causing this difference please?

Thanks,

Hello Will,

Thanks for posting in!

Please be advised that this page, https://www.shapecast.com/blog/, is your blog page using the Masonry Layout you have selected in X > Theme Options > Blog. If you have edited this page in Cornerstone and inserted TheGrid plugin thinking it would change the layout, it will not work because any page that you have assigned as you Posts Page in Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays > Posts Page, the contents of that page will be discarded and it will use the built-in template design of the index.php page.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks but its not the layout thats the problem I dont think. Its the actual look of the post items in the Grid. In preview, they look like the styles page in The Grid styles formatter and include the excerpt, the like icon, sometimes the author etc.

When I publish the page, it looks completely different though so something appears to be breaking down.

Hey Will,

Please forget about the layout part of Ruenel’s response for a moment and focus on this part:

What he meant was you have a page titled “Blog” and you used that page as your Post Page or Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays > Posts Page.

If that is the case, which is highly likely, unset the Posts page so you could use your 'Blog" page as a normal page and not the main index or blog page. Select “Select” like in the screenshot below.

If that is not the case, please give us WordPress admin access in a Secure Note so we could check your setup. Give us the name of the grid you’re using if you have lots of grids.

Thanks.

Hi Will,

I think there is misunderstanding here. As stated by @RueNel and @christian_y, what is showing on your Blog page is what is expected based the settings on the admin.

Im using The Grid in preview mode for a new style which looks very different in preview to the live site.

You have 3 columns on the Blog page. Each of this grid(those 3 columns) is controlled by a template. I am not sure how you have set to use THE GRID. That is not how it works. When you say preview mode, can you clarify which part is it?

Hi,

I think there is some confusion about this, so Ill try to explain again.

When Im setting up the styling for the blog page, what I see on the published page looks completely different (and undesirable) to the version I see when Im setting up the styling in The Grid editor and preview mode. In the grid editor and preview, I have set the skin=Maren and when I preview I see it roughly how I would like it to appear.

I then save and commit the changes. When I return to the production site (anonymous session or logging out), what I see is completely different grid styling to what Ive set up previously inside the editor. Ive added both versions so hopefully you can see what Im referring to.

Ive set you up with a user to log in if you want to see for yourself. See the secure note attached to this thread.

Thanks,

Hi Will,

Yes, I can see your setup. As stated nothing is breaking down.

By default on wordpress, BLOG function is already included. You don’t have to build its content. Any theme you use has a default template for BLOG page. That means, when you go to SETTINGS > READING, anything you set on POSTS PAGE, the blog template will take over. Anything you add manually on the page will be IGNORED. The template will take over and put put the list of blog post following the themes design.

Now, if you want to use THE GRID design, please change POST PAGE settings. Unset it. Don’t set anything.

Great thanks - thats solved it.

You’re welcome.
