Design Cloud / Template Manager - Can't install certain content

Hey apex-team,

hope you have a pleasent day :sunny: I am currently struggeling with the design cloud or rather the installation of content in the template manager.

I have had installed the ‘Architecture Portfolio’. But I deleted it and now I want to install it again. Unfortunately, I receive the orange error message in the right top corner: “Uh oh Unable to Install Template.”

I searched for a solution in the forum and already did the following:

  1. I have read the whole guide for the template manager. (for fellow readers who are also trouble shooting, here’s the link: https://theme.co/apex/forum#using-the-template-manager)

  2. I increased the memory limit in the wp-config.php (for fellow readers, see further: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/cant-install-design-cloud-content/44501/4)

  3. I searched all WordPress folders on my server via my ftp-client for the template section. But I couldn’t find anything specific enough that I dared to just delete it. Maybe you could provide the path for the future so I and all people following this thread might help themselves

  4. I searched for a possible solution to import all templates via apex. But I did not found anything. Which, to be honest, makes sense if one thinks about it. (for fellow readers: The only way is an active Pro installation)

  5. I installed a caching plugin an deleted the whole cache.

So, to sum it up: I was not able to re-install the content that had been installed and deleted a while ago. I think it can not be installed, because there is still an exiting folder of the Architecture Portfolio and it can not be overwritten. But this is just a guess. Also, I can not find the specific folder to do it by myself.

As I have made pretty good experiences with you, the whole apex team, I dare to send you my ftp-access as well as the website and the login credentials to look insinde of this problem. You can find it underneath.

It would be a charm, if you could also tell me how to install the WHOLE templates. I think at this point I don’t want to bother you more than needed. So, it would be great if I could get ahold of all templates.

By the way, I want to thank you for the templates you already provided. I really like the moving image on scroll. Before you provided this, I could only manage to do this with custom code. So I am really glad you showed a faster way to the finish.

Thank you very much in advance

Dustin

Hi Dustin,

I couldn’t find what’s causing the 502 Gateway timeout, there is no logged error and memory limit is already high. The post and upload max is already 50m so there shouldn’t have any issue with the import size. Plus, if the deleted template is still there, it should still display a message that it’s a already there and it shouldn’t stop your importing the same template.

Let’s do this first, please contact your hosting provider and let them upgrade your PHP version to 7.2 or above. It’s the latest compatible version for the current Wordpress version installed at your site. And please check this too https://www.keycdn.com/support/502-bad-gateway

Then let us know and we’ll check it again.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

thank you very much for your fast reply.

The PHP version is now updated to the latest possible version (7.2) of my host.

I visited the website you mentioned and read it. Even though I did not received a 502, I still carried out their recommendation regarding checking for 502 errors for developers:

  1. The DNS test tool could not manage to find a 502
  2. The ping test worked like a charm ( 0% loss everywhere)
  3. The online traceroute had 6 connection errors (Miami, Seattle, Bangalore) but worked completely in other places (Germany, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, London, Amsterdam, etc)
  4. There are no unusual drops in the server firewall

I have currently no clue what to do. Maybe it is possible to manually add the templates to the template manager? I mean, everything else seems to work. The target audience of this website is pretty local (only Germany) - so as long it works here I can live with that. Or maybe you have another hint what I can tell my host for resolving the issue so I can install the templates?

Again, thank you very much for your time, Rad. Hope, you have a pleasant day

Hi Dustin,

Unfortunately, I can’t find anything as of now. I did imported the templates to my installation and downloaded the Architecture Portfolio template. Then imported it on your site and it failed too

It’s properly formatted and it imports on my other installation, except on your site. Hence, there is no way to import it since it also refuse the manual import of the templates.

The file and design cloud template has binary format, perhaps you host can’t handle the binary transfer/format? Here is the file that your hosting can try for importing. Maybe they could investigate why Binary data is not being handled properly through AJAX request. They could use browser developer tool (https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/) to find or view the errors.

And the 502 error is also due to data format.

Thanks!
