is there a plugin that will let me create a relational database of tools or other gear in wordpress and then let users browse them?

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully, this isn’t a feature offered by X theme or with the plugins that comes with X theme.

As we do not provide support for 3rd party plugins or scripts, you may have to research a plugin that suits your needs. Since you have a specific requirement, you can also try contacting a plugin developer to build from scratch.
