Customizing category pages in Pro

Hello, I’ve just upgraded to Pro and am learning the Layout Builder (which I love). I’m trying to figure out how to add customized intro paragraphs to the blog category pages.

For example, if the breadcrumbs were on, the blog article would have:
Home > Dogs > Golden Retrievers

If someone clicks back to the “Dogs” category, I want to have a specific paragraph explaining Dogs (and then show all the articles in that category)

Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

Hey @jenbrady,

We’re glad to hear that you love the Layout Builder.

Yes, what you need is possible. You just create an Archive Layout for each of your Categories.

  1. You first assign the layout to a specific category. The screenshot below shows a product category but it can actually be any post type category.

  1. For the intro paragraph Add Text in the builder. I believe you already know this so I’ll proceed with the next step.

  2. To display posts for a specific category, you just use the Query Builder Looper Provider. In the Taxonomies option, select the category you’d like to display. If you’re not familiar with Loopers, you might want to watch the tutorials here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgY5E3tOI83kBEahh9Y3uRg/search?query=looper

Hope that helps.

Fantastic, can’t wait to try. Thank you!!

Awesome, @jenbrady! Yes, there are lots of possibilities with the Layout Builder. The Looper videos @christian mentioned above are certainly very helpful, and you can also check out these two videos specific to the “Single” and “Archive” Layout Builder contexts:

You will probably find those very helpful as well just seeing us walk through a few examples of how to assign Layouts, work on the general setup, et cetera. Hopefully all of this helps to point you in the right direction…cheers!

These videos were the “cornerstone” of my success. Very very helpful and I finally have a working knowledge of all this. Thank you both so much!

You are most welcome @jenbrady.
