Customize portfolio grid

Perhaps it’s best to first explain what my goal is.

I need to list a group of persons in a grid, each grid block is a headshot (featured image) and underneath that the name (title) and a short blurb (body).
The portfolio seems to be a good tool for this. I’ve added some items there and created a page with the portfolio template.

I have two issues;
-How do I change the layout to what I need? Now it’s just the image with a hover effect of the title and the category “image”. I can edit CSS but there is actually information missing there so what I need may not even be available. I don’t need the hover effect. It can be really simple.
-How do I insert this grid on the homepage instead of having to use a dedicated page with the portfolio template? I would like it to be part of a one-pager in the end.

If there is an easier way to achieve this than with portfolio please let me know.

To change the portfolio layout and to get rid of the hover effect, it would require custom CSS coding for that you need to learn CSS and learn how to use the browser’s element inspector.

Alternatively, you can use or bundled plugin called “The Grid” or “Essentials Grid” to display the portfolio item on the pages.

Thank you for your reply. I can code in css and php but was just looking fot some easy answers as your example is different from what I get but I guess that depends on the stack.
I will try the (essential) grid first and see where that gets me…
