I am trying to customise the top footer area. I have created a png geographical map for widget area 2 with shutter stock, but when I upload it, (tried .png, .jpeg & .tiff) the transparent background area, is still displayed as square grid with both .png & .jpeg format, but the .tiff does not show the image at all.
Any advice most welcome
aiming for this look, although my uk map is solid

Hi there,
It is the problem of the image itself. The Widget area and the theme do not have anything to do with the fact that you see those white and grey squares.
I suggest that you use a photo editing software like Photoshop to do so.
