Custom Post Types and Metaboxes

HI,
I bought x-theme today and I after a general reading also to Pro, i have a few questions before starting to customize the website:
1- Should I need to use one of the theme templates or can I start form zero, setting my own post types and their metaboxes (heades, sidebars, footers)?
2- If I use one of the theme templates can I add my CPT adding custom metaboxes to them, for example using cornerstone?
4- Or, as I really need to create some CPTs and need them to have their own metaboxes should I upgrade to Pro and built the all theme from scratch?
I don’t know much thing about coding, but I know what i really need. I switched my theme’s website because it was impossible to have full customized CPTs. So, I need an interface that avoids any coding.
Therefore, I need some advice on these questions before going deeper with the website construction. Keeping on x-theme or go Pro, that’s the question!
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Rogerio,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the forum

  1. You don’t have to use the templates, any custom post type without custom template will default to standard post type templates (the blog post). You’ll only need to customize the template if your objective is to use the different design and look for your custom post type.

  2. You could add your meta boxes without restriction, but, your meta boxes will not reflect cornerstone’s setting section. User added meta boxes are only applicable in standard post editing section.

  3. I think any theme that requires CPT custom template requires customization as there is no way to predict what CPT user would create. And with CPT, X theme or Pro theme should be okay since template customization isn’t related to the builder’s feature. Unfortunately, interface for template customization isn’t available as of now. Though I may able to guide you replicating the templates required for CPT, but I couldn’t fully cover the entire customization.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

Thanks for tour reply.

Maybe I wasn’t clear on my explanation. Sorry. My prior experience with other 2 wp themes, is that after creating a CPT it wasn’t possible to set its sidebar and header using the post editor. By default, the CPT always inherited the blog post sidebar and header format. No changes allowed. I really want to customize the post layout (header, sidebar, footer can be inherited) and not only the contents template.

Going Pro would make it easier to create CPTs layouts once it would be possible to start building my own website layout from scratch and not importing a default theme layout? Am I correct?

I apologize for any misunderstood.

Rogerio

Hey Rogerio,

Thank you for the clarifications. Whether using X or even Pro theme, when you create CPT, you cannot assigned a header or sidebar to it. Regretfully the CPT will still be treated as a standard post type. As @Rad mentioned in his reply: “CPT custom template requires customization as there is no way to predict what CPT user would create. And with CPT, X theme or Pro theme should be okay since template customization isn’t related to the builder’s feature. Unfortunately, interface for template customization isn’t available as of now. Though I may able to guide you replicating the templates required for CPT, but I couldn’t fully cover the entire customization.”

Thank you for your understanding.
