Custom main menu only on home page

Hello there,

Please could you assist me in achieving the following:
I refer to http://rdmdefenceday2019.co.za/ - the client has requested that on the home page only, the header with logo and navigation bar does not appear. Instead they want a navigation bar right at the top… or then possibly on the left of the page. This custom menu should only appear on the home page - the rest of the pages should have the header with logo, company tag line and navigation bar. For this reason i did not think that i could use the top bar, because that would appear on all the pages, correct?

So please could you give me some instructions on how to achieve 1 and/or 2?

  1. Have a navigation bar above the image slider (on the home page only)
  2. How to implement a navigation bar on the left hand side of the image slider (home page only)(i’ve split that section into two column now but cannot figure out how to add a widget to that column to put a navigation bar there?

Thanks for writing in!

To achieve point number 1, you have to change your page template to header and footer, which will ad the same header as inner page.

for point number to you can use classic Widget area element to insert custom nav menu in widget.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Just to be clear, so are you saying that to achieve a menu above the image slider - option 1 - the only way is to add the header back in - and that would then apply to all the pages? So it cannot be done?

I’ve managed to get option 2 working - thank you.

Hi @Caracarina,

Yes, you should add the header back in. And that’s only possible with Pro theme as you can create specific header bar and only assign it to your home-page.

Or, you can use a no-header template and use Ubermenu along with it. Use Ubermenu shortcode within text element, but that’s not going to be the same as a standard header.
