Custom font flashing issue

Hi

I have added a custom woff font to the font manager and it loads, however I am getting the flashing issue especially on slower connections in Chrome, tried doing a font face in the header and that also did not work.

See here:

As it loads it flashes to generic font before settling on proper font.

Hey @wowflak,

Thanks for writing in. If you don’t want a generic font displaying, try the Block Font Display value in the Font Manager

Other than that, regretfully, there’s no solution to that other than to use a light-weight font.

Hope that helps.

okay I did try that. Did not work, it seems only to be an issue on slow networks, the issue was on a satellite internet connection. I am not seeing it on my regular high speed connection.

Great News. Good to know that there is a difference when using slow and high speed connections.

I have the same problem: when I reload my site, the menu goes blank, then ugly default fonts appear, then after 10 seconds or so, the correct fonts load at the end. I don’t have the same settings screen as the screen shot in this solution, can someone please advise? thanks

Here is my problem–will the solution in this post fix this? thanks

Hey Steve,

Regarding this:

Font Display Block should hide the fallback font (not the font you want) while the font you’ve selected is loading.

This issue has nothing to do with our theme, by the way. It’s just how fonts work within the browser. That’s why I said:

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Christian, for your help. So, to fix the problem once and for all, I can ask my web programmer to change my font to a ‘light weight’ font. My current is MuseoSans–do you know how I can find a similar-looking, lightweight font?

Also, as you can see in my screenshot above, I don’t have the ‘font display’ settings–I just have ‘custom fonts’ Am I running a different version of theme X? Thanks, and sorry for the basic questions.

Hi Steve,

It could be because the MuseoSans font file is loaded through the Wordpress CSS area which takes a while to load that is why the default font is displaying first until the font file gets loaded.

Loading the font through CSS is actually not necessary anymore because of the Font Manager feature available in the theme. You are not seeing this option because your site is using an older version of X. You may ask your programmer to update the X and Cornerstone version of your site to the latest one so that you can have the font manager feature which you can use to install the MuseoSans font on the site.

Then to setup the font, please check this docs article:

Hope this helps.

Thanks! That is very helpful.

You are most welcome!
