Custom 404 Extension Issue

Hello,

I’m trying to use the Custom 404 extension to allow a customised page to load whenever a 404 error happens.

I’ve setup a custom page with no problems and the content loads correctly when viewing that page, however - when testing an incorrect URL to prompt the new 404 error page, the page title is incorrect (pulling in another blog post page title, wetsuit buying guide)

The working customised error page is - https://thewaveshack.com/oh-no-something-went-wrong

An example of it pulling in the wrong title is - https://thewaveshack.com/error-test

Any idea of how to get any 404 error to load the customised page with correct page title of “Oh No, Something Went Wrong” ?

Thanks

Hi

Thank you for writing in, but sorry I cant replicate the issue, on my end the title of your 404 page is Oh No, Something Went Wrong

Please try clearing your browser’s cache, or test it on incognito mode.

Cheers!

Hi Friech,

Thanks for the quick response, sorry don’t think I’ve explained the issue very well.

The problem is that the Title within the post is incorrect - I can see in your screenshot that it says “Wetsuit Buying Guide” as the title when any 404 error occurs, but it should read “Oh No, Something Went Wrong”.

Would you be able to take another look or tell me how can I fix it?

Thanks

Hi Rich,

Sorry about that, and thank you for the clarification. But I can’t replicate this issue on my dev site, is there any chance that you have any customization on your 404 page ( Oh No, Something Went Wrong)? Or maybe you have a plugin conflict issue with the Custom 404 plugin, please do testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!

Hi again Friech,

So I removed all the custom CSS that was present but the error still showed.

I also tested to see if there were any plugin conflicts but the issue remained with no plugins turned on and again when each plugin was turned back on.

I’ve also done a fresh install of the 404 extension and tried selecting different pages to be the custom 404 page but the title issue remains as “Wetsuit Buying Guide”.

What I have found however is that the “Wetsuit Buying Guide” title on the 404 error page is being pulled from the post carousel display at the top of my website. If I were to change the wetsuit buying guide post in the carousel at the top of the page the title then changes again.

Could you give anymore help?

Thanks

Hello Rich,

Thanks for updating in! This issue might be a bug or conflict between the Custom 404 extension and the Post Carousel in the theme. I’ve submitted this to our issue tracker so the developers will be made aware of it.

Please bear with us.
