Custom 404 Error page Meta Title issue

Hi there,
I’ve got plugin installed, custom 404 by Themeco, works as expected, but the Meta title and description is set from my latest posts for some reason.

Instead of taking page Title, and description from Yoast, it is indeed taking from my latest blog post?

Hi Rafal,

Thank you for writing in, I can see the issue on your site, but I can not replicate it on my dev site. There is a big possibility that this is caused by one of your plugins. Please do testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Thanks for writing in and checking at your end. OMG you spot on. Yoast plugin is adding this to 404 pages.

I need to remember isolating ALL of the Plugins first, including those which has been trusted for a very long time!

So it seems that Yoast doesn’t recognise your 404 custom page plugin as Special pages. Title and description template is set in Yoast, and also in custom 404 page but still reads:

Admin only notice: this page does not show a meta description because it does not have one, either write it for this page specifically or go into the [SEO - Search Appearance] menu and set up a template. -->

Could you perhaps check if this is something it has to be fixed on your end, or this is Yoast compatibility issue.

Just trying to think what to do at this point, stay with Yoast (which by the way, recent upgrades caused a lot of issues) or to move to another provider.

Hey Rafal,

This is a configuration problem with Yoast SEO. Our 404 page doesn’t have a meta description and according the the notice you posted, you need to set the description in Yoast SEO’s interface. You will need to refer to Yoast SEO’s documentation or contact their support to learn how to do that.
