Critical site error when updating Cornerstone Version 4.2.3 to Version 5.3.3

Hi there,

I am currently having issues updating the Cornerstone plugin from Version 4.2.3 to Version 5.3.3 on my Wordpress site, as it results in a critical site error. I have tried a couple of times and have only been able to restore my site via a backup. I am using the theme X theme. Not quite sure how to proceed, I’d appreciate any advice on how I can resolve this.

Thanks.

Hi @alikau,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Make sure to update X theme first and then update Cornerstone (both of them should be updated to avoid potential errors). Alternatively after updating X, delete Cornerstone plugin and then you can install the fresh compatible copy of Cornerstone via X > Validation screen. Once you’re inside the Validation screen, on the top of the screen click on Click here to install and activate link (see screenshot)

Let us know how this goes!

Thanks so much for getting back to me. My X theme is up to date, I just discovered my license was unvalidated (though I have validated it successfully in the past). It has been validated again, and I ran the Cornerstone update again and got the same critical error. I’ve restored the site again from a backup. If I delete Cornerstone and then reinstall it, will I lose all of the pages that I’ve built in it and have to start from scratch?

Hey @alikau,

Your pages would remain intact but there is currently a known issue with Cornerstone and PHP 7.0.

Before you delete Cornerstone and install it again, please try updating PHP to 7.4 and ensure X is up to date. If it doesn’t work, try PHP version 7.2 or 7.3 .

If that doesn’t work, try using the Previous Release for now.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Christian. I was already using PHP 7.4. I just updated Wordpress to the latest version too (I didn’t realise it wasn’t up to date), then checked X was up to date and then tried Cornerstone and it worked - thank goodness! Thanks so much for your help.

We’re glad you sorted it out and thank you for sharing the solution with us.

Cheers!
