Critical error caused by Cornerstone Update

Hi - Cornerstone update is causing a critical error on ALL X theme sites.
Please respond asap!

A lot of people have the same issue. I assume they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. I suggest you roll back to the older version for now.

Hi @Gingerfizz_Marketing,

Thanks for reaching out, before rolling anything back, is there anything else you can tell us? Do you know the specific error message? Or do you have a link to any sites where this is happening? We’d be happy to help but just need some more information about the problem.

This is the error I got in my email:
There is an E_ERROR on the line 73 of the file

/home/bijuter4/public_html/wp-content/themes/x/framework/functions/frontend/view-routing.php.

Cannot declare class X_View_Router, because the name is already in use

I got the same issue! How can I downgrade Cornerstone?

@alexander Thanks for responding. The sites has now been rolled back as I have angry clients with broken sites!

As with all the other reports, Cornerstone is conflicting with the latest version of Wordpress which is then deactivating sites when updated due to the conflict:

Error Details
=============
An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 32 of the file /home/sites/5b/7/77a609557b/public_html/wp-content/themes/x/framework/functions/frontend/view-routing.php. Error message: Cannot redeclare x_get_view() (previously declared in /home/sites/5b/7/77a609557b/public_html/wp-content/plugins/cornerstone/includes/elements/shim.php:141)

Hi @Gingerfizz_Marketing,

We were able to confirm that was happening if you updated Cornerstone but left X on the older version. We were able to make a change in Cornerstone 5.0.2 that prevents the error from happening when the older version of X is active but would still advise updating both to the latest version.

@alexander both the theme & Cornerstone were updated last night & my client arrived at their desk to a broken site this morning. Something is not right with this update!

I have now spent time rolling their sites back to the previous version of X & Cornerstone & they are both back up & running now. I’ve prevented my other clients updating their sites in case this occurs again. More bug testing needs to take place BEFORE rolling updates out as it’s costing people time & money that they don’t have right now.

@Gingerfizz_Marketing I’m sorry these issues weren’t caught during our beta testing. We did test extensively but it’s not uncommon for more issues to be made clear after a release to automatic updates because we get in situations where the theme / plugin are on different versions. Most of these issues we are pushing fixes for within a few hours, so in your case I’d just recommend waiting a few days before updating again.

Also having this problem - unable to update client’s site’s Cornerstone plugin or their site goes down with a critical error. I reverted the plugin update and update the X theme first to the current version, and then the Cornerstone plugin and got the same result. Reverted CS again and will just leave it for now on v4.2.3.

Hi @savantmg,

Please note that a few hours ago we have released another version of the theme with some fixes, I would recommend you to update your theme to the latest one.

I would also suggest you follow the below steps while updating to the latest version of the theme.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone . It will be at the latest version

Hope that helps.

Thank you.
